Wolves win in overtime
SUDBURY, Ont. — Quentin Musty’s goal 15 seconds into overtime lifted the Sudbury Wolves to a 5-4 victory Wednesday night over the North Bay Battalion and a split of their Ontario Hockey League home-and-home series.
Kocha Delic joined Musty with one goal and one assist, while Dalibor Dvorsky, Kieron Walton and Ethan Larmand also scored for Sudbury, which moved its won-lost-extended record to 8-5-0 for 16 points, tying North Bay for second place in the Central Division.
Goaltender Jakub Vondras faced 20 shots as the Wolves, playing before a crowd of 2,525, avenged a 5-4 loss Sunday.
Ty Nelson, Ethan Procyszyn and Anthony Romani each provided one goal and one assist for North Bay, with Jacob Therrien also scoring. Goaltender Charlie Robertson made 30 saves for the Battalion, 6-4-4.
With the Troops slow to cover a rush, Musty moved off the right wing across the crease and fired the puck past Robertson on the only shot of overtime. It was Musty’s fourth goal of the season.
Romani precipitated overtime at 11:12 of the third period with his team-leading 11th goal. Dalyn Wakely and Owen Van Steensel had assists as Romani wired the puck home from high in the zone.
Sudbury, which trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes, tied it on Delic’s goal with the teams skating four a side at 5:07 of the second period. Delic dashed down the left wing around Paul Christopoulos and put home his fourth goal on assists by Evan Konyen and Owen Protz.
Walton scored his team-leading sixth goal with the teams skating four-on-four at 12:25, cashing a Delic pass at the left side, and Larmand gave Sudbury a 4-2 lead at 14:31 when he jammed a loose puck past Robertson at the crease.
Procyszyn, taking a lead pass from Nelson, raced in alone off the right side to backhand the puck under Vondras at 16:08. Procyszyn’s third goal came with the teams again skating four a side.
Therrien opened the scoring at 7:52 of the first period, taking a pass from Ihnat Pazii deep on the right wing and, stationed in the mid slot, beating Vondras low to the glove side. Procyszyn had the other assist on Therrien’s fifth goal.
Nelson struck on the power play at 12:02 for his fourth goal. Romani fed the puck across the top of the zone to defenceman Nelson, who slapped it home. Wakely had the second assist.
Dvorsky replied at 15:43 when he sent the puck toward the crease from a bad angle on the right wing and it deflected off Robertson’s right skate. Musty and David Goyette received assists.
The Battalion visits the Kitchener Rangers at 7 p.m. Friday. The game can be seen live in North Bay on Your TV Channels 12 and 700.
