Troops honoured in Poll
NORTH BAY, Ont. — Ethan Procyszyn led three North Bay Battalion representatives when results of the Ontario Hockey League’s 2024-25 Coaches Poll were released Thursday.
Procyszyn won the best on faceoffs category for the Eastern Conference, finished second in voting for best defensive forward and tied for third as hardest worker.
Lirim Amidovski was tied atop the most improved player category, and Mike McIvor finished second as best shootout goalie.
The Coaches Poll in each of the two conferences sees every club submit one nominee in 20 categories. Coaches vote for the top three players in each category within their conference, with players receiving points on a 5-3-1 basis. Coaches may not vote for their own players, producing a maximum of 45 points for each winner.
Centre Procyszyn had 24 points as best on faceoffs, with centre Patrick Thomas of the Brantford Bulldogs second with 21 points.
Procyszyn garnered 17 points for best defensive forward, behind centre Cole Beaudoin of the Barrie Colts with 23. The Battalion captain tied Thomas with 14 points in the hardest worker category, which Beaudoin led with 26 points, followed by defenceman Quinton Burns of the Kingston Frontenacs at 15.
Left winger Amidovski and right winger Cole Brown of Brantford had 24 points each to tie for the top spot as most improved player. Barrie goaltender Ben Hrebik was third with 14 points.
Goaltender McIvor drew 17 points in the best shootout goalie voting, behind Jack Ivankovic of the Brampton Steelheads with 23.
Brampton and Brantford led the conference with six players achieving mention.
In the Western Conference, the London Knights led with seven representatives in the results.
