Dubrovtsev top rookie
NORTH BAY, Ont. — Evgeny Dubrovtsev of the North Bay Battalion has been named Rookie of the Week for the period ended Sunday, the Ontario Hockey League announced Monday.
Centre Dubrovtsev scored three goals and earned two assists for five points in three games as the Battalion stretched a winning streak to four games. The Troops have won eight of their last nine outings.
Dubrovtsev netted two goals in a 4-3 home-ice decision Thursday night over the Kingston Frontenacs and provided one assist in a 6-3 win Friday night against the host Sudbury Wolves. He had one goal and one assist Sunday as the Battalion blanked the Niagara IceDogs 5-0 at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens.
A right shot who measures five-foot-11 and 183 pounds, Dubrovtsev has 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points in 60 games. In his last eight games, he has five goals and six assists for 11 points.
A St. Petersburg resident who turns 18 on March 18, the Russian was selected in the first round, 17th overall, in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft last July.
He’s the second member of the Battalion to be honoured as the top rookie this season, after centre Ryder Cali, who was recognized for the period ended Oct. 19.
