[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]OWEN SOUND, ON \u2013 The Owen Sound Attack announced today the hiring of American-born Mike LaZazzera as the team\u2019s new Associate Coach and Director of Player Development.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

LaZazzera previously held the title of Director of Player Development at Quinnipiac University for the men\u2019s ice hockey team \u2013 a position he has held for the past two seasons. The Springfield, MA native brings to the Attack almost forty years of coaching and player development experience at the professional, junior and university level \u2013 including NHL, NCAA and OHL including as a Video Coach with the New York Islanders (NHL), Assistant Coaching roles with the Portland Pirates (AHL), University of Maine (NCAA | D1), and Plymouth Whalers (OHL) and Head Coaching & General Manager duties with the Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL).\u00a0 He has also been behind the bench for multiple Kelly Cup Finals appearances in the ECHL.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Along with diverse coaching experience,the veteran hockey coach also holds a Master\u2019s degree in Athletic Counseling and has completed PhD\u2019s (ABD) in both Sport & Exercise Psychology and Leadership.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Head Coach Keenan Reynolds believes that LaZazzera\u2019s strong character and work ethic will be of value to the team’s culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]OWEN SOUND, ON<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 The Owen Sound Attack Hockey Club is pleased to announce the signing of forward\u00a0Lucas Prud’homme\u00a0to an Ontario Hockey League Standard Player Scholarship and Development Agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally selected by the Attack in the\u00a05th Round (91st overall) of the 2023 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, Prud’homme has developed into a hard-nosed, physical forward and now officially joins the Bears Den after spending the 2025-26 season with the\u00a0Madison Capitols\u00a0of the United States Hockey League (USHL).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the 2025-26 campaign, the 6-foot-3, 207-pound Ottawa, Ontario native appeared in 49 games with Madison, recording 5 goals and 5 assists for a total of 10 points, while adding 184 penalty minutes and finishing with a +4 rating. Known for his physical presence and tenacity, Prud’homme established himself as one of the USHL\u2019s toughest players while continuing to round out his offensive game.\u00a0 He spent the previous two seasons at St. Andrews College where he recorded 54 goals and 44 assists in 138 games between their U18 AAA and PHC teams.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank Coach Keenan and General Manager Tyler Nother for bringing me in and for the opportunity to be a part of this team they are building,\u201d said Prud\u2019homme. \u201cI am excited to meet the rest of the guys and all the staff, and can\u2019t wait to get this season rolling.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bell was acquired by the Attack earlier this off-season in a trade with the Niagara IceDogs and officially joins the organization ahead of the 2026-27 OHL season.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 17-year-old Scarborough, Ontario native enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 season with the St. Catharines Falcons of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), recording\u00a011 goals and 29 assists for 40 points in 46 regular season games. Bell added\u00a011 points in 16 playoff<\/span> games\u00a0as the Falcons advanced to the Sutherland Cup Championship Series. His 40-point campaign ranked among the league’s top rookie defencemen, earning him selection to the\u00a0GOHL Eastern Conference All-Rookie Team, while also representing the league at the\u00a0MacPherson Challenge Tournament\u00a0and participating in the\u00a0GOHL Top Prospects Game\u00a0during the OHL’s Connor McDavid Top Prospects event.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute honour to officially sign with the Owen Sound Attack. I\u2019ve always dreamed of playing at this level, and can\u2019t wait to hit the ice, work hard for this team, and play in front of such an incredible fan base in Owen Sound,\u201d said Bell. \u201cI\u2019ve been lucky enough to be part of some great programs in the past, and I hope to bring that team-first mentality here. I know this organization has a strong winning culture, and I want to do whatever it takes to contribute and help us succeed. Attack President and General Manager Tyler Nother says Bell’s development over the past season made him a player the organization was eager to bring into the fold.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Caden Bell and his family to the Owen Sound Attack Organization,\u201d said Nother. \u201cCaden is coming off of a strong development season with the St. Catharines Falcons of the GOHL, where he played significant minutes as a first-year player during the Falcons’ playoff run. Caden’s ability to play in transition, provide offence from the backend, and quickly close out plays makes him a strong addition to both our group this season and for the future. We are looking forward to seeing Caden in an Attack jersey and assisting in his development in the coming years.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Selected <\/span>in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2026 CHL Import Draft, the 6-foot-3, 215 pound Slovakian defencemen will join the Attack after spending the majority of last season with t<\/span>he HC Slovan Bratislava U20 team. The two-way defenceman put up four goals and 10 assists for a total of 14 points during the regular season with a plus\/minus of plus-10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m super excited to join such a great organization like the Owen Sound Attack,\u201d said Cernak. \u201cMy goal is to be an impact player right away and help my teammates in any way I can. I can\u2019t wait to get started and wear the Attack jersey for the first time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Team President and General Manager, Tyler Nother, believes that Cernak\u2019s dedication to the game and his willingness to be uncompromising in his play to be of value to the Attack.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“We would like to welcome Roderik Cernak and his family to the Owen Sound Attack Organization,” said Nother. \u201cRoderik was identified early on when evaluating what we were looking to add to our group in the CHL Import Draft. Roderik is a hardnosed, right shot defenseman who is willing to do what his team needs to win games, and make it hard on the opposition’s forwards night in and night out. We are very excited to assist in his transition to the North American game and to help him develop into a pro prospect.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Attack’s Head Coach, Keenan Reynolds, notes Cernak’s physicality as a defender as one of the vital aspects of his game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cCernak is a smooth-skating, physically imposing defender who is at his best when playing an aggressive brand of hockey and making life difficult for the opposing team\u2019s top players,\u201d said Reynolds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Cernak also joins Team Slovakia teammate, Lucian Bernat, as the second CHL Import Draftee signed to the Attack during the off-season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hockey Canada uses this camp as a way to identify and pick players for two teams that will represent Canada at the 2026 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge being held November 1-7, 2026 in Oakville, Ontario.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fransen, who was drafted eighth overall, signed a <\/span>Standard Player Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Attack and became the first of the 2026 OHL draft class to do so. The left-handed defencemen spent the 2025\/26 season serving as Captain of the Upper Canada College U16 team, where he played 69 games accumulating a total of 89 points.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Zilinski, who was drafted first in the second round of the 2026 OHL Draft, signed a Standard Player Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Attack earlier this week. The centre spent the 2025\/26 season with the<\/span> Mississauga Senators U16 team. Despite suffering a shoulder injury in the second half of the season, he collected 35 points in just 25 games with his U16 team.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Voortman, who was drafted 46th overall in the third round of the 2026 OHL Draft suited up for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16 during the 2025\/26 season. The left-winger had a point-per-game performance with a total of 21 points in 21 games with the Jr. Canadiens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lucian Bernat of the Owen Sound Attack joins Sudbury Wolves forwards Adam Nemec and J\u00e1n Chovan and Michal Svrcek of the Windsor Spitfires among the 31 players invited to Slovakia’s five-day camp in Pie\u0161\u0165any from July 20-24.<\/p>\n

The camp marks the beginning of Slovakia’s preparations for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship and will include two exhibition games against the country’s Under-18 National Team as it readies for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.<\/p>\n

Bernat, who recently signed with the Owen Sound Attack after being aelected by the Attack in the second round (75th overall) of the 2025 CHL Import Draft.\u00a0The 6-foot-4, 201-pound winger arrives in Owen Sound following a strong 2025-26 season that saw Bernat register\u00a0 31 points (15-16-31) with Tappara’s U20 club in Finland last season while representing Slovakia at the 2026 IIHF Under-18 World Championship.<\/p>\n

Nemec returns after a strong finish to the 2025-26 season, joining the Sudbury Wolves midway through the campaign and producing 35 points (14-21-35) in 31 regular season games. The 2026 third-round Ottawa Senators draft pick also represented Slovakia at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, recording five points in five games.<\/p>\n

Chovan also earns a spot after an impressive first OHL season in Sudbury. Selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the sixth round of the 2025 NHL Draft, the 6-foot-3 forward recorded 55 points (28-27-55) in 60 games with the Wolves while adding two goals in four playoff contests. He represented Slovakia at both the 2025 and 2026 World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

Svrcek, who signed with the Windsor Spitfires in June after being selected in the 2025 CHL Import Draft, joins the camp following a season that included time in Sweden’s SHL with Bryn\u00e4s IF. A Detroit Red Wings prospect, he also suited up for Slovakia at the 2026 World Junior Championship.<\/p>\n

Slovakia opens camp on July 20 before playing a pair of exhibition games against its Under-18 National Team. Known for his combination of skill, hockey IQ, and competitiveness, the talented forward has established himself as a player capable of making an impact at both ends of the ice. The centreman, who spent the 2025\/26 season with the Mississauga Senators U16 team, had 14 goals and a total of 35 points in just 25 regular season games.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Attack are excited to welcome Zilinski and his family to the organization as he begins the next chapter of his hockey career.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Attack will kick off the pre-season with back-to-back games in the Barrie Showcase against the Oshawa Generals on Saturday, August 29th at 1pm and the Barrie Colts on Sunday, August 30th at 7pm, for the first of two pre-season games where fans will be able to get a taste of Rivalry Week.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Attack will then have a three game homestand at the Bayshore, taking home ice against the North Bay Battalion for the first of two games on Wednesday, September 2nd at 7pm. Followed by a rematch against the Colts on Saturday, September 5th at 2pm. OWEN SOUND, ON \u2013 The Owen Sound Attack are proud to announce that prospects Jack Riehl and Austin Hall have been named to the 2026 U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team that will compete at the Under-17 Four Nations Tournament in Chomutov, Czechia.<\/p>\n

The pair earned their spots following outstanding performances at USA Hockey’s Boys National 16 Player Development Camp and will represent the United States against some of the top under-17 players in Europe.<\/p>\n

Riehl was selected by the Attack in the ninth round (169th overall) of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection after an impressive season with Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 15U. Hall, chosen in the 11th round (209th overall), earned his invitation following a strong campaign with Detroit HoneyBaked 15U.<\/p>\n

The Under-17 Four Nations Tournament is one of the premier international events for players in this age group and features national teams from the United States, Czechia, Slovakia, and Switzerland. The event provides athletes with valuable international experience while serving as an important step in the USA Hockey player development pathway toward future international competition, including the IIHF Under-18 World Championship and the World Junior Championship.<\/p>\n

The United States has enjoyed tremendous success at the tournament, winning nine Four Nations championships since 2010, while compiling an all-time record of 57-2-1-12 (W-OTW-OTL-L).<\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Owen Sound Attack added two promising international players to the organization’s future on Wednesday, selecting Slovak defenceman Roderik \u010cern\u00e1k in the first round (22nd overall) and Russian left winger Mikhail Melikov in the second round (83rd overall) of the 2026 CHL Import Draft.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The annual Import Draft allows Canadian Hockey League clubs to strengthen their rosters by selecting elite players from outside North America, and the Attack used both selections to address key areas with a talented blueliner and a dynamic offensive forward.<\/span><\/p>\n

2026 CHL Import Draft Selections<\/b><\/p>\n

Round 1 Pick 23<\/span><\/i> – <\/span>Roderik Cernak | RD | Slovakia<\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With their first-round selection, Owen Sound chose 6-foot-3 Slovak defenceman Roderik \u010cern\u00e1k, a smooth-skating, two-way defender regarded as one of the top young blueline prospects in Slovakia.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u010cern\u00e1k spent the 2025-26 season developing in HC Slovan Bratislava’s U20 program while also gaining experience against older competition. Known for his size, mobility and poise with the puck, the right-shot defender plays a mature, reliable game in all three zones.\u00a0 He finished the regular season with 14 points (4 goals + 10 assists).\u00a0 Cernak also played in four games at this year’s Hlinka Gretzky cup representing Team Slovakia\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are incredibly excited to select Roderik Cernak. Cernak is a large, strong, and physical, right-handed shot defenseman, that addresses a need on our D-Core. We feel that he will be a challenge for opposing teams to play against and make the Attack better next season,\u201d said Team President and General Manager Tyler Nother.<\/span><\/p>\n

His ability to break the puck out efficiently, close gaps defensively and contribute offensively from the back end makes him an intriguing addition to the Attack blue line. \u010cern\u00e1k has also represented Slovakia internationally, gaining valuable experience against many of the world’s top players in his age group.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u010cern\u00e1k comes to the Scenic City as a player with significant upside and the potential to make an immediate impact.<\/span><\/p>\n

Round 2 Pick 83 <\/span><\/i>– <\/span>Mikhail Melikov | LW | Russia<\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the second round, the Attack selected skilled Russian forward Mikhail Melikov, adding another offensive weapon to the organization’s prospect pool.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Born in Moskva, RUS., Melikov played 60 games this past season with the MHK Dynamo Moskva where he completed the regular season with 35 goals and 87 total points. Melikov led the MHL in points (87), assists (52), and was fourth in goals (35).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cMikhail Melikov was the top producing player in the MHL last season in Russia. We feel that Mikhail is a proven goal scorer, has tremendous offensive instincts, and has the ability to become a top producing player in our league, and will complement our returning forward group,\u201d said Nother.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Melikov is an intelligent, creative forward who combines strong puck skills with excellent vision and offensive instincts. Comfortable playing both centre and wing, he has consistently demonstrated the ability to create scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout his development in Russia, Melikov has earned a reputation for his hockey IQ, quick release and ability to produce in key situations. His competitiveness and willingness to play in all situations make him a well-rounded forward with exciting offensive potential.<\/span><\/p>\n
