OWEN SOUND, ON \u2013 The Owen Sound Attack are pleased to announce that 2026 first-round OHL Priority Selection pick Max Fransen has signed an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Hockey Club.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Selected eighth overall in the first round of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, the 6-foot, 190-pound defenceman joins the Attack following an outstanding season with the Upper Canada College Blues U16 program. Fransen recorded 27 goals and 53 assists for a total of 80 points in 60 games during the 2025-26 season and added seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) in six games at the 2026 OHL Cup. He was ranked ninth on the OHL’s Consensus Ontario Top-100 rankings heading into the Priority Selection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We are thrilled to officially welcome Max and his family to the Owen Sound Attack organization,” said Attack President and General Manager Tyler Nother. “Max\u2019s intelligence, leadership, and competitiveness are exactly what we look for in an Attack player, and we believe he has the potential to become a cornerstone defenceman for our hockey club.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Fransen served as captain of the Upper Canada College Blues and established himself as one of the premier defencemen in his age group through his ability to drive play, contribute offensively, and excel in all situations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Being drafted by the organization was a special moment for me and my family and signing today is another important step in my hockey journey” said Fransen. \u00a0“Owen Sound is a program that has done a very good job developing great players on and off the ice and I’m hoping to be one of those guys. \u00a0The City of Owen Sound is an unreal place and I’m looking forward to getting to work with my teammates, learning from the coaches and staff, and contributing in any way I can.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Attack Head Coach Keenan Reynolds believes Fransen’s skill set and character will make an immediate impact within the organization.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMax is not only a talented hockey player and proven winner, but a high-character young man that we expect to be a leader and driver of the Attack\u2019s culture for the foreseeable future\u201d said Reynolds.\u00a0 \u201cHe possesses an elite hockey-IQ and an innate competitive drive that he uses to control games from the backend, and is most comfortable with the puck on his stick making plays to help his team win games.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Fransen is the first member of the Attack’s 2026 Priority Selection class to commit to the organization and will attend the club’s upcoming development and training camps in preparation for the 2026-27 Ontario Hockey League season and will wear the number 43.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Today the Tyson Downs Association (TDBeAT) unveiled the newest Automated External Defibrillator [AED] \u2013 a medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm \u2013 at Harrison Park Inn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Owen Sound Attack organization is thrilled to take part in the ribbon cutting ceremony with the City of Owen Sound and Tyson Downs Association (TDBeAT). We were privileged to take part this year in the TDBeAT CPR and AED training session with our team and staff, and to help raise the funds to install outdoor AED Save Stations in Owen Sound,\u201d Said Community Relations Coordinator Evan Longland. \u201cAn enormous thanks goes out to the Downs extended family and everyone at TDBeAT for their work on this project and all they do through the Tyson Downs Association, and to our fans for their continued support of our community partners. We look forward to working with TDBeAT in the future and continuing our mission to support local charitable efforts that benefit Owen Sound and our local area.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The TDBeAT goal is to work towards the prevention of sudden cardiac death by raising awareness and working to provide prevention training<\/span>. <\/span>TDBeAT is the main advocate for more accessible AEDs in public spaces while also helping map out locations of AEDs in our community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Owen Sound Attack will begin their regular season on the road in Kitchener against the defending Memorial Cup Champions on Friday, September 18, as the Ontario Hockey League revealed the league’s full 2026-27 schedule today. It\u2019s a back-to-back home and home series with Kitchener to open the season, with the Rangers heading to the Bayshore for the Attack’s home opener on Saturday, September 19.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Attack’s schedule includes 20 Saturday’s, four Sunday’s and 10 weeknight games.<\/p>\n

In October, the first four of Owen Sound\u2019s eight\u00a0 games will be played on the road; including a three game swing with Windsor Spitfires, Flint Firebirds, and Saginaw Sprit from the 16th through to the 18th. As well as the first game of the Attack\u2019s rivalry series with Barrie at Sadlon Arena. The Attack will close out the month with a four game home-stand at the Bayshore, where they will take the ice against the London Knights, the Colts again to close out rivalry week, Sarnia Sting; in the teams School Day Game, and then a Saturday afternoon Halloween matchup with the Spitfires.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Attack will play 11 games in the month of November with three of the four Saturday night games played at home. Starting on the road to face off against Sarnia, before heading across to this season\u2019s Memorial Cup hosts in Guelph. Before heading home for a trio of games against Kitchener, Barrie, and Guelph at the Bear Den.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Attack’s Christmas break will be bookended with a pair of home games at the Bayshore, first Saturday, December 19 against the Sudbury Wolves, and Monday, December 28 against the Barrie Colts.<\/p>\n

January\u2019s home games will start with hosting divisional rivals Erie for the back-to-back games at the Bayshore, before heading down to the Erie Insurance Arena to play our second round of back-to-back games in February. The Attack\u2019s February road trips will not end there as they will also take on the Eastern Division with games against Peterborough, Kingston and Ottawa from the 18th through to the 21st.<\/span><\/p>\n

The team will end the regular season the same way they started it with a final matchup against the Kitchener Rangers at the Bayshore.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the schedule now set, the Attack will begin booking suite nights in the coming weeks and will release a full promotional\/specialty game schedule as well as new single game ticket packages, including a revamp flex pack prior to single game tickets going on sale just before training camp. Anyone wishing to become a new season ticket member or renew their season ticket membership are reminded that the deadline for this is July 31, 2026 and all tickets must be paid in full by this deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

The Owen Sound Attack made 17 selections at the 2026 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore, over two days at Slush Puppie Place in Kingston. \u00a0The Attack used their first round pick to select defensemen Max Fransen out of Upper Canada College on day 1, then opened day 2 by selecting centre Matthew Zilinski from the Mississauga Senators, Jace Voortman from the Toronto Jr Canadiens and Turner Stephenson Upper Canada College.<\/p>\n

The Attack selected 10 forwards, five defensemen and two goalies with seven of these players coming from the GTHL, four from the OMHA, three from USA based programs and one from Hockey East Ontario.Included in the next wave of Attack prospects were three players with connections to the organization. \u00a0Both the Attack’s first round pick Max Fransen father Aaron and third round pick Turner Stephenson dad Dave played for the Platers\/Attack during their time in the OHL, while Lucas Tout is from Kincardine and played for the Grey-Bruce Highlanders who play in the OMHA AAA loop in our area.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are really excited about our 2026 draft class. Our main priority was to address several positional needs, and we placed a strong emphasis on hockey IQ, compete level, and skill. We feel we accomplished that with our selections over the past two days,\u201d said Attack President and General Manager Tyler Nother.<\/p>\n

Get to know your the first of 17 players that will make up the Next Wave of Attack players in the Bears Den, Max Fransen. \u00a0The Attack selected him 8th overall in the 1st round at the 2026 OHL Priority Selection in Kingston, Ontario. \u00a0Fransen, a native of Toronto, Ontario, is a 5-foot-10-inch defensemen out of the Upper Canada College Blues U16 AAA program.<\/p>\n

Fransen comes to the Attack with a connection to the Scenic City, with his dad Aaron having suited up for the Owen Sound Platers for 31 games during the 1998-99 season, after being acquired from the Kingston Frontenacs.<\/p>\n

Attack fans are invited to a draft party in conjunction with the Owen Sound Attack Pack for both tonight and tomorrow’s draft round in Owen Sound at the<\/span> Active Lifestyles Centre Grey Bruce located in the parking lot at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Come check out round 1 on Friday night starting at 6:30pm, then return on Saturday starting at 8:30am and watch the rest of the Next Wave of Attack as we draft round 2 through 15.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There will also be an online video set up between the two rooms so we can introduce you to our prospects and speak with our Hockey Operations staff when they are available.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fans unable to attend the watch party will be able to watch the draft happen from the live broadcasting occurring on <\/span>YourTV <\/b>and streamed through <\/span>FloHockey\u2019s<\/b> digital platforms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
