Goaltender Jordan Binngton made 30 saves as Team Canada skated to a 2-1 shootout win over Sweden in World Junior pre-competition action on Saturday but it may have come at a cost for both teams.
Jonathan Drouin scored for Canada while Alexander Wennberg replied for Sweden in a game that saw Canada’s Boone Jenner ejected for a late hit that could result in a suspension.

Jenner hit Jesper Pettersson late in the offensive zone, leaving the Swedish defenceman laying on the ice in a great deal of pain. Pettersson was taken off on a stretcher and sent to hospital.
“I have a tough time predicting what IIHF directorates do with discipline but, historically, that type of hit being deemed a five-minute major with an injury, more than likely I would say there’s going to be a suspension,” said TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie.
Jenner was assessed a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct on the play. Canada’s next game will be the tournament opener against Germany in Ufa, Russia on Wednesday.
Jonathan Huberdeau and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored in the shootout with Mikael Vikstrand scoring for Sweden. Joel Lassinantti made 32 saves in the loss.
Earlier, Aleksander Barkov scored once and added two assists to lead Finland to a 5-1 win over the United States.
