Weekend Preview: Erie Double Header Weekend With Key Points on the Line
The Owen Sound Attack will embark on a road trip this weekend for their annual double header, taking place at the Erie Insurance Arena against the Erie Otters. The Attack head into their double header planning to leave Erie with four points, being in a tightly contested race for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Attack are competing in the Western Conference standings with the Soo Greyhounds, sitting in 8th place with 51 points. As well as the Sarnia Sting, who currently sit in 7th place with 52 points. With only eight games left in the regular season, every game is critical at this point of the year.
Friday night will mark the start of the second and final double header between the Attack and Otters this season, fifth meeting between the two teams this season. The Otters took their last matchup on January 29th due to the heroics of Martin Misiak in overtime, toe dragging around two Attack defenders and sniping it top shelf for a highlight reel game winning goal. The Otters head into the weekend losing three of their last five games, while the Attack have won three of their last five games. Expect both teams to bring their A game as the season series is tied at two wins a piece.
Saturday will be the final matchup of the regular season between the Attack and Otters. Fans will be expecting the same as Friday night, a close contested battle between the two foes. Out of the last six matchups between the Attack and Otters, five of those games needed extra time for the game to be decided. Pierce Mbuyi will be a key note player this weekend as he continues to chase Colby Barlow’s record for goals scored by a 16 year old. Barlow holds the record with 30 goals scored during his 2021-22 rookie campaign, Mbuyi currently has 25 goals throughout his rookie campaign. Note fans, in four games this season against the Otters, Mbuyi has recorded five goals and five assists including a emploding performance At the bayshore, potting three goals and two assists in a 8-5 win.
