Spitfires beat Attack 4-3 in Shootout.
The Attack were back at the Bayshore tonight for their final game before the Christmas break against the Windsor Spitfires. The Attack were looking to put their loss in London last night behind them and enter the Christmas break on a winning note.In a hard-fought battle the Spitfires came away with a 4-3 win. Taos Jordan, Jake Crawford, Ben Comier Scored. Harry Nansi with 2, Antonio Tersigni, Sam Sedley, Deni Goure, James Petrovski assisted. Carter George made 46 saves.
George had to be quick in the crease from the start with Windsor getting a few chances early. The Attack were able to hold off pressure from the Spitfires early and looked to get momentum going in their direction. The Attack fired shots towards Joey Costanzo in the Windsor crease on a power play creating good looks to open the scoring. The 4th ranked Owen Sound penalty kill went to work and limited the dangerous chances that Windsor created keeping the game scoreless. Jordan found a loose puck in the Windsor zone and fired home a 1-0 Owen Sound lead. The Attack looked to extend their lead late in the period but the first frame ended with Owen Sound ahead 1-0.
Seconds into the middle frame, Oliver Peer would snap home a 1-1 tie. George had to be sharp in the crease to prevent Windsor from taking the lead keeping the game tied at 1. The Attack looked to generate their own scoring chances and tested Costanzo to make a variety of saves. With 6 minutes remaining in the period, Colton Smith would give the visiting Spitfires their first lead of the game at 2-1. Period 2 ended with Owen Sound heading into the third down 2-1.
The Attack looked to get back into the game and started the final frame by generating chances in the offensive zone. George continued to keep the Attack in the game down by only a goal staying calm during Windsor pressure. A Sedley shot from the point deflected off of Crawford in the slot to tie the game at 2. Owen Sound continued to press and were rewarded with Comier potting home his 9th of the year for a 3-2 Attack lead. with 5 minutes left in the game, Ryan Abraham would tie the game for the Spitfires at 3. The Attack had some good looks to take the lead on a late power play, but the score remained tied at 3. Fans were treated to overtime between the Attack and Spitfires.
In the extra frame, a quick rush by Sedley and Goure forced Costanzo to be ready with the glove. Both goaltenders made several key saves in the overtime to keep the game going. Sedley was hauled down on a breakaway leading to an Owen Sound penalty shot that was stopped by Costanzo.
In the shootout, Deni Goure was the first shooter for Owen Sound and scored. Liam Greentree would tie the shootout with the first Windsor shot. Guindon was stoped by Costanzo. Burroughs, Cole Davis, and Waddick were all stopped. Valentin Zhugin won the shootout for the Spitfires and a 4-3 win.
Up next, The Niagara Ice Dogs travel to Owen Sound for a contest on December 28th for a 7:00 tilt. The Kitchener Rangers will visit the Attack on December 30th for a 7:00 PM game.
