Preview: Attack Hit Road Against Sting & Firebirds
The Owen Sound Attack hit the road this weekend for a pair of important conference games against the Sarnia Sting on Friday night and the Flint Firebirds on Saturday night. The Attack head into the weekend tied with the Sting for 8th place, three points back of the Firebirds for 7th place in the Western Conference.
The Attack come into Friday night winners of their last two games, with a 9-16-2-3 record and 21 points on the season. Landen Hookey (12-19-31) and Sam McCue (18-12-30) continue to pace the Bears on offence both coming off solid games on Wednesday night, where Hookey had his second hat trick of the season and McCue had a four point effort in the win. Ben Cormier has also come alive as of late riding a four game goal scoring streak, registering 4 goals and 1 assist over this period. The Attack head into weekend action sporting the leagues 8th best penalty kill, only allowing 21 goals on 112 attempts, and the 16th ranked power play covering 18 of 107 times so far this season.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Attack made a roster move loaning rookie forward Trent Gates to the St. Catharines Falcons of the GOJHL.

The Sarnia Sting head into Friday nights game tied with the Attack for 8th place in the Western Conference with a 8-17-2-5 record. The Attack took the only meeting thus far this season between the two team 5-2 in Owen Sound back on November 6th. Winners of one game in their last ten, the Sting will be determined to get back in the win column and put the Attack behind them in the standings. Offensively, Sarnia is led by Tyson Doucette (13-9-22), Zak Filak (8-14-22) and Easton Wainwright (8-12-20), while in net the Attack will have deal with either Nick Surzycia (3.68/0.891) or Evan Maillet (4.46/0.874). The Attack will look to improve their special teams performance against a Sting team that currently have the leagues 20th ranked power play converting 16 of 140 times and the leagues 15th ranked penalty kill allowing 28 goals against in 119 opportunities.

The Flint Firebirds head into the weekend with a 12-15-1-1 record and 26 points on the season. The Firebirds won the only meeting between the two teams so far this season, 3-0 on October 26th in Flint. The Firebirds are led by Christopher Thibodeau (8-14-22), Nathan Aspinall (7-13-20) and Kaden Pitre (10-9-19), while the Attack will need to contend with either Nathan Day (3.21/0.883) who has played the majority of the games in net or Noah Bender (3.83/0.855) in net. The Bears will look to create more opportunities on special teams against the Firebirds who have the leagues 19th ranked power play covering 14 of 110 times and the leagues 18th ranked penalty kill allowing 32 goals against in 115 times shorthanded.
