OHL Power Rankings: Feb. 3, 2025
The pace picks up moving into February. Here’s the landscape on the OHL Power Rankings!
Who’s up:
Windsor Spitfires – up one spot to #2 this week
The Spitfires wrapped up the weekend with a thrilling 4-3 comeback win over first place London, improving to 34-11-2-1 on the season. This win comes after a disappointing 5-1 loss to the Flint Firebirds at home on Thursday. Liam Greentree and Ilya Protas sit third and fourth respectively in OHL scoring.
Brantford Bulldogs – up one spot to #4 this week
The Bulldogs had nothing put success in the north, rattling of three straight wins over North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury. Nick Lardis continued his torrid goal-scoring pace, with seven goals on the trip to bring him to 48 on the season.
Kingston Frontenacs – up one spot to #7 this week
The Fronts found high-scoring success on the road, defeating Saginaw, Flint and Sarnia while lighting the lamp 20 goals in the process. Calgary Flames prospect Jacob Battaglia secured himself back-to-back 30-goal seasons, OHL Player of the Month Tuomas Uronen extended his point streak to 13 games and Cedrick Guindon saw his ironman streak of consecutive games surpass 250.
Saginaw Spirit – up one spot to #9 this week
The Spirit couldn’t match the Kingston Frontenacs at home on Thursday, but rebounded with home wins over Kitchener and Sault Ste. Marie as 2025 NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa hit the 40-goal mark over the weekend. Calgary Flames prospect Zayne Parekh continues to pile up the points, with a league-leading 67 (24-43–67) among blueliners. Rookies have factored into Saginaw’s recent success, with Jacob Cloutier, Dimian Zhilkin and Carson Harmer all having strong seasons.
Owen Sound Attack – up one spot to #11 this week
The Bears, despite being outside of the playoff picture, are playing good hockey right now. Owen Sound grabbed five of a possible six points last week with an overtime loss against Erie and victories over Ottawa and Brampton. Landen Hookey hit the point-per-game production line with a goal and two assists in Sunday’s win over the Steelheads as he now has 48 points (21-27–48) to lead the team.
Peterborough Petes – up three spots to #14 this week
The Petes are back on the board following one-goal wins over Brampton and Oshawa. Jonathan Melee continues to provide the Petes with consistent offence as the overage captain has 11 points in as many games. The Petes are seven points out of a playoff spot, but they’re not an easy two points these days.
Who’s down:
London Knights – down one spot to #3 this week
The Knights drop another spot to number three after a couple solid months on top of the mountain. London beat Erie 4-2 at home on Friday before surrendering a 3-0 lead on Sunday in Windsor, losing 4-3 to the Spitfires as Austin Elliott’s 20-game winning streak came to an end. The Knights host the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday at Canada Life Place.
Barrie Colts – down one spot to #5 this week
The Colts collected five of a possible six points over the weekend, beating Ottawa and Niagara while losing 3-2 to Oshawa in overtime on Friday. NHL Draft prospect Kashawn Aitcheson continues to impress, scoring Saturday’s overtime winner as the Colts beat the IceDogs 7-6. Dallas Stars prospect Emil Hemming has also been solid since the World Juniors, recording 13 points over his last eight games. Circle your calendar for Tuesday as the Colts play host to the Kingston Frontenacs.
Niagara IceDogs – down one spot to #8 this week
The IceDogs dropped a pair of decisions beyond regulation, collecting two points in the process. Niagara lost 7-6 in Barrie on Saturday before dropping a 4-3 decision in a shootout against North Bay on Sunday. Rookie netminder Matthew Humphries was excellent on Sunday in his first OHL start, making 38 saves in a first star effort. Niagara trails first place Barrie by five points in the Central Division.
Erie Otters – down one spot to #10 this week
The Otters beat the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday courtesy a Martin Misiak game-winner. From there, they lost to both London and Sarnia and fell behind Saginaw in the Western Conference standings, now sitting fifth with a record of 23-19-3-1.
Sudbury Wolves – down one spot to #12 this week
The Wolves skated to a high-scoring 8-3 win against North Bay on Friday, before getting a taste of that medicine on Sunday as the Brantford Bulldogs took a 9-3 victory. Nathan Villeneuve starred in Friday’s win, tying a franchise record with two shorthanded goals in the game. The Wolves are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference, two points up on Brampton with a record of 23-18-5-0.
Soo Greyhounds – down two spots to #16 this week
The Hounds went 0-3 last week and fall to 16th on the list after losses to Kitchener, Brantford and Saginaw. OHL Rookie of the Month Chase Reid remains a bright spot for the Greyhounds, recording another four assists last week. The Hounds sit two points up on Owen Sound for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference heading into a trip to North Bay on Thursday.
Brampton Steelheads – down one spot and off the list this week
It’s been a bit of a downward spiral for the Trout of late. They started the week with a 4-3 win over Peterborough before losing to the Petes 5-4 at home followed by a 5-3 loss in Owen Sound on Sunday. They’ll be on home ice on back-to-back nights Friday and Saturday, playing host to capable opponents in Erie and Kingston.
