Mbuyi Commits to NCAA Penn State
Owen Sound Attack draft eligible forward Pierce Mbuyi announced on social media yesterday that he has committed to NCAA Division 1 Penn State University. There is currently no expected start date for Pierce with the Nittany Lions who play in the Big Ten Conference.
“I’m really excited to announce my commitment to Penn State and look forward to continuing my hockey journey there after my OHL experience is complete” said Mbuyi.
Mbuyi, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, is fresh off receiving the Emms Family Award as the Ontario Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year on Wednesday and runner up for the Canadian Hockey League Rookie of the Year honour last night.. Pierce’s outstanding rookie campaign saw him register 29 goals and 23 assists; his 52 points is most ever by a 16-year-old rookie in franchise history, while his 29 goals was one shy of tying that rookie franchise record. Taken by the Attack seventh overall in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection, he also represented Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Showcase in November.
Attack General Manager, Dale DeGray has been in contact with Mbuyi and the family throughout the process that saw a lot of interest in him from NCAA Division 1 schools.
“I am sure Pierce and his family have had many offers and opportunities from a lot NCAA schools” said DeGray. “I am sure it’s a weight off their mind to finally choose Penn State, which is an outstanding school for, if and when he decides that would be his next step. Penn State would be getting a fantastic hockey player and an outstanding young man.”
Be sure to get your secure your season tickets for the 2025-26 before the deadline on August 1, 2025. You can see Pierce and the rest of the Attack at Attack training camp at the Shallow Lake & District Community Centre, August 25-29, 2025.
