Joe Tomatoes Weekend Preview Week #1 – Attack Visit Storm & Host Colts
After a busy month of preparation, the Owen Sound Attack are now ready to embark on the 2023-24 regular season this weekend. The Attack will kickoff the season on Friday, September 29 at the Gleeman Centre in Guelph, before heading home to the Bayshore against the Barrie Colts on Saturday, September 30 for the Attack’s home opener.
Friday Night, will mark the start of what should be a very exciting season of Attack hockey. The Bears had varying success against the Storm last season going 3-2-2-1 in 8 regular season games. They will hope a new seasons clean slate and the return of key players from National Hockey League training camps will help them improve upon a 1-2-0-1 record at the Gleeman Centre last season. To accomplish this the Attack defence will need to keep Max Namestnikov, Jake Karabela and Braeden Bowman who combined for 172 points in 2022-23. Up front, the Attack forwards will need to find away to create offence against the likes of Michael Buchinger and Brayden Hislop.
The Attack will then take on a familiar foe, the Barrie Colts, to open the home portion of their schedule in the second of back-to-back games. The highway 26 rivalry will be in full swing with the two teams having already played two pre-season games in the past three weeks. The one big difference is both teams will ice a more veteran ladened roster, which should make for an exciting homeowner. The Attack will need to pay close attention to the forward threesome of Cole Beaudoin, Jacob Frasca and Beau Jelsma who will likely be providing the horsepower for the Colts this season. On the back end the Attack will have to find ways to get past Beau Akey and Connor Punnett who will be charged with trying to stop the Attacks high powered offence.
With the majority, if not all, of the Attack players who are currently away at NHL Camps expected to be back in the Den by the weekend, the Attack will look to get off to a fast start and cement themselves at the top of the western conference standings.
Tickets for Saturday night’s home opener are still available and can be purchased at the MacVicar & McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office in person, or on the phone at 519-371-7452 or online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
In an unrelated roster move, the Owen Sound Attack announced today that they have released forward Thomas Chafe. Thomas has cleared waivers and will be joining a team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
