Goure Scores 2 Short-handed, Attack Top Rangers in a 4-1 Game
The Owen Sound Attack looked to extend their win streak to 5 games tonight on the road in Kitchener against the Rangers. So far this season with 4 games between the Attack and Rangers, both clubs have picked up 2 wins. 3 third period goals propelled the Attack to a 4-1 win over the Rangers. Cedrick Guindon, Deni Goure with 2, and Sam Sedley scored. Ethan Burroughs with 2, Goure, and Madden Steen assisted.Corbin Votary stopped 35 shots in the crease for the win.
29 seconds in, Filip Mešár beat Votary on a quick shot to give Kitchener a 1-0 lead. Owen Sound would get the first power play of the game and generated some momentum in the offensive zone forcing goaltender Jackson Parsons to make a few saves. Votary made a big stop on Mathew Sop and got some help from the post to deny the Rangers for adding to their lead. With the Rangers pressuring in the Owen Sound zone, Votary was relied upon to make a number of saves under pressure. A sharp angle shot by Guindon beat Parsons through the pads to tie the game at 1.
Kitchener controlled the start of the middle frame but great defending by the Attack kept the game tied. Deni Goure showed a great burst of speed to break in on Parsons who steered the shot away with the pad. An Owen Sound power play led to some great chances for the Attack and the Rangers hitting the post shorthanded. A cross ice pass from Tomislav Brennan set up Goure in the slot and Parsons had the squeeze the puck in his pads to prevent the puck from finding the back of the net. After 40 minutes the Attack and Rangers were tied a 1-1.
Just over a minute into the final frame, Kitchener got a man advantage but a shorthanded breakaway but Goure beat Parsons over the glove to give the Attack a 2-1 lead. Strong defensive plays and solid goaltending allowed the Attack to maintain their lead with the Rangers pressing to tie the game. Using their speed, Owen Sound took advantage of a mistake by Kitchener and Goure raced in again for his second shorthanded goal of the game and 14th goal of the season for a 3-1 Attack lead. Sedley fired his 5th of the season into the empty net to make it a 4-1 Owen Sound lead. The final buzzer sounded with the Attack getting a 4-1 win over Kitchener to extend their win streak to 5 games.
Up Next Owen Sound will play host to the North Bay Battalion tomorrow at 7:00 PM.
