Attack Take Home Opener 4-2 over Colts
On Saturday night, the Owen Sound Attack successfully rebounded from a season opening night loss, defeating the Barrie Colts 4-2 at the Bayshore. Leading the way offensively for the Attack was Sam Sedley with a goal and two assists and Deni Goure with a goal and an assist. Landen Hookey and Ben Cormier also found the back of the net, while Carter George made 31 saves to record his first win of the season.
Jacob Frasca opened the scoring giving the Colts a 1-0 lead mid-way through the first period. He powered through the neutral zone, then avoided an Attack defender before beating George over the shoulder. The rest of the first period became a goaltending battle with both Ben West and George trading big saves to keep the score at 1-0 for the Colts after 1 period of play.
The Attack came out of the intermission on a mission applying pressure and keeping the Colts in their end for most of the first two minutes. The Bears were rewarded when Landen Hookey tipped the puck past West and pushed the rebound over the line to even the game at 1. Then six minutes later, the Attack registered their first power play goal of the season, when Deni Goure blasted home a cross ice one-timer from Cedrick Guindon to put the Attack ahead 2-1. The pressure continued, but Barrie began to find ways to counter, spring players on breakaway’s or 2-on-0’s in he final minutes. Thankfully George was up to the challenge and held his ground and the score at 2-1 after 40 minutes.
The goaltending battle continued in the third period with George and West exchanging important saves, but thankfully for the Attack they got a bounce back that from the night before when a Sedely point shot bounce off the Barrie defender and past West to make it 3-1. A little over five minutes later the Colts were able to bring the game back within one when Riley Patterson banged home a rebound off George’s pad to make it 3-2. This was as close as the Colts would get as Cormier added an empty net insurance marker in the final minute of the game giving the Attack a 4-2 victory over the visiting Barrie Colts.
The Attack will now turn their sights to a busy Thanksgiving weekend that will see them head to Kitchener to take on the Rangers on Friday, October 6 at 7pm, before returning home to the Bayshore on Saturday, October 7 against the Erie Otters at 7pm.
