Attack Storm Guelph with 7-2 Victory
The Owen Sound Attack were right on point Friday night with a 7-2 win over the Guelph Storm. Pacing the Attack were Declan Waddick, Tristan Delisle, David Bedkowski, James Petrovski and Bruce McDonald all with a goal each. A special night for Owen Sound Rookie Pierce Mbuyi who had two goals, putting him in the leading position for Most Points by a 16-year old in Attack Franchise history. Surpassing Attack Alumni Joey Hishon and Colby Barlow tied a record of 47 points. Goaltender Carter George also had an exceptional night saving the Attack from 49 attempts on net from the opposing Guelph Storm.
The Attack came out strong in the first period. Declan Waddick would get a foot in the door for Owen Sound early in the period with a wrap-around goal in the first 10 minutes. Continuing a physically dominating game, the Attack continued to apply pressure to the Storm’s defences. Many excellent saves were made by George, continuing to act as a solid base for the Attack. Furthering their lead late in the period, the Attack would continue the pursuit for a win, into Guelph’s territory. With just over a minute left, Mbuyi would get a glove on the puck. In a two-on-one, Mbuyi made the shot putting him neck and neck with previous Rookie Franchise Record holders. Not long after Tristan Delisle made his scoreboard appearance with a backhand goal. The Attack now led 3-0 over the Storm.
Much like the first, the Attack once again pushed hard through the second period. The Attack collecting the puck led a strong offence into the Storm’s territory. A breakaway in play allowed the Attack a clear path down the right side of the ice. Bedkowski firing a shot would see to another Attack goal. Setting up a perfect trifecta, Michael Dec would feed the puck to Hookey, passing along to Mbuyi, firing home his second goal of the game and new earned title.
An expected push back from the Storm would give Guelph two goals on the board early in the third. The Attack quickly would answer back with a couple of empty net goals made by James Petrovski and Bruce McDonald, securing the Attack’s victory.
