Attack Down Sting 5-4
The Attack welcomed the Sarnia Sting to the Bayshore on Saturday for the annual Toys for Tots Drive. Owen Sound looked to pick up another win after a 3-2 overtime thriller in Guelph last night. The Attack won both previous games against the Sarnia this season a 4-0 win in Sarnia and a 6-4 win at home. An entertaining game saw the Attack come out on top with a 5-4 win. Jake Crawford, Declan Waddick, Eathan Burroughs, Servac Petrovsky, Deni Goure with 2 scored. Nico Addy, Cedrick Guindon with 2, Sam Sedley with 2, Burroughs assisted. Carter George made 42 saves for the win.
The Attack would kill off an early Sting power play and looked to gain some momentum off the penalty kill. Both teams used their physical play to set the tone of the game right from the start. A great burst of speed by Cedrick Guindon lead to a great shorthanded scoring opportunity for the Attack. Andrew Leblanc opened the scoring for Sarnia just over halfway through the first period making it a 1-0 Sting lead. George was strong in the crease and turned aside some Sarnia chances to keep it a one goal game. Crawford pounced on a loose puck in the Sting zone and fired home his third of the season to tie the game at 1. Waddick wired home his fifth of the season to put the Attack ahead 2-1. Burroughs potted home a shot at the side of the net to extend the Attack lead to 3-1 with a power play marker. The first period ended with Owen Sound ahead 3-1 on the Sting.
The physical play from the first continued into the second with both teams playing the body to make plays. Petrovsky would find the back of the net for his 10 of the season to put the Attack ahead by 3. The Attack continued to pressure in the Sarnia zone and looked to add to their lead. With 4 on 4 action taking place, Goure would net his 16th of the season for a 5-1 Attack lead. Great forechecking by the Attack lead to some more scoring opportunities during a Sting power play. Daylen Moses would score with 3 seconds to go in the period for the Sting. Period 2 ended with the Attack holding onto a 5-2 lead.
The Attack looked to keep control of the game to start the final frame and pick up their second win on the weekend. The String cut the Owen Sound lead to 2 just over a minute into the period with Mitch Young getting the marker. George stood his ground in the crease and made sure to prevent the Sting from adding another marker. 5 minutes into the third, Easton Wainwright would make it a one goal game with the Attack ahead 5-4. Strong defensive awareness by the Attack limited the dangerous scoring chances that Sarnia was able to create. George made a huge glove save with the Sting on a man advantage to keep it a one goal Owen Sound lead. The Attack held off Sarnia and picked up a 5-4 win.
