Attack Lose Tight Match Against the Battalion
The Attack came out with a strong effort at the North Bay Centennial Gardens, coming up just short in a 3-2 shootout loss. The game is the second pre-season match of the 2024-25 season for the Attack, falling to a 0-1-0-1 record.
A tight game for the full sixty minutes of regulation and extra time, the Attack started the scoring with 2024 first rounder Pierce Mbuyi’s first of the pre-season off a feed from Harry Nansi just six minutes and change into the second period. Following up just over two minutes later, Sam Ethier found the back of the net thanks to assists from Max Bleicher (first point of the exhibition season) and Antonio Tersigni.
The bears couldn’t hold the lead in the third period as the Battalion found the net twice, the first just under five minutes into the final frame off the stick of Lirim Amidovski followed by the tying goal with just a minute to play in regulation when Andrew LeBlanc scored with the extra attacker on for North Bay.
In the shootout Nansi, Jake Crawford, and Landen Hookey couldn’t convert on the Battalion netminder Mike McIvor who finished 21/23 in a full-game effort. Jacob Therrien netted the only goal and winner past Carter George (20/22) who split the game with Matthew Koprowski (9/9).
The game was the first OHL action for import selection Rafik Varosyan who finished the game -1 with 1 shot on net. Attack head coach Scott Wray returned to the Centennial Gardens for the first time after serving as the Battalion’s assistant coach for 6 seasons.
Several Attack players head off to NHL camps this week, stay tuned to the Attack website for full details.
