Attack Suffer 4-3 Loss to Kitchener Rangers
The Owen Sound Attack were back on the road Friday night for a 7PM game, facing off against the Kitchener Rangers. Coming to the end of their early 2 game winning streak, the Attack would suffer a close 4-3 loss against the Rangers. Pierce Mbuyi would make headway for the Attack with three goals in the first period, marking his second recorded hattrick in the 2024-25 season.
What began as a slow stretch for the Attack, quickly turned to a running lead. With the Rangers scoring early in the first period the Attack would look to answer back. Chasing the puck into the Rangers end, Landen Hookey would quickly intervene Kitchener’s pass. With the puck now in prime position for an Attack goal Mbuyi was quick to fire way into the back of Kitchener’s net. Back and forth with goals, the Rangers would once again gain the lead 2-1 over the Attack. Facing off in Rangers territory, this giving the Attack the location advantage they needed to regroup for another shot. Passing the puck between Braedyn Rogers, James Petrovski and Pierce Mbuyi, Mbuyi would make a rocket one-timer goal on an Attack power play. With a back to back goal, Mbuyi would make his third appearance on the score board with an additional Attack Power Play goal.
A stagnant second period would see little movement with not goals for either team. Trent Bennett would stay a solid wall for the Attack in net shutting down 14 attempted goals by the Rangers.
Despite the teams best efforts in the third period, the Attack were unable to find the equalizing goal as the Rangers would secure a fourth goal in the final 5 minutes of the period.
The Attack will continue their weekend back at the Bayshore Saturday, February 8 against the North Bay Battalion and Sunday, February 9 against the Kingston Frontenacs. An important note for fans, Sunday’s game will include a post game skate with the team brought to you by Investment Planning Counsel.
