Attack Go Neck To Neck With Knights in Shootout : 4-3 London
The Owen Sound Attack headed to London late Friday night where they would see an intense back-and-forth game between them and the knights. After three periods, a 5 minute game of sudden death, a final score was found in a shootout, leaving the Knights ahead 4-3 against the Attack’s efforts. In net for the Attack was Carter George who made a striking 35 saves in a 38 shot game. Scoring for the Attack was Sam McCue with two goals, and Bruce McDonald with a goal of his own.
Going into the first, the Attack kept a steady pace, weighing heavily into their offence and maintaining a strong defence. A constant shift in power between the two teams would keep play fairly even throughout the first 20 minutes. Coming out at the end of the period, both teams had no goals and remained even in shots-on-net, both weighing in with 7 shots each.
Early in the second, the Knights would find an opening in the Attack’s defensive zone, earning them their first point. Owen Sound, on the power play would answer back with a quick witted goal by McCue, sneaking the puck through the corner of London’s net. Within the next 5 minutes McCue would make a back-to-back goal from his previews, through the open wing of London’s zone McCue would make good time of his visit earning the Attack their second goal of the night.
With both teams now on the board, it was crucial for the Attack to take full advantage of their one goal lead. Halfway through the period, McDonald in a break away, would race down the left side of the ice, finding the back of the Knight’s net with ease. London pulling together would answer back with two goals late in the period, putting the score back to a tie at 3-3. The Attack and Knights would head into a 5 minute game of overtime. With no additional goals made, the teams would be forced into a shootout.
Making in through 5 rounds, the Attack were eventually overrun leaving the final score in favour of London.
Next up, the Attack look to come back to the Bayshore for a Saturday night home game against the Oshawa Generals.
