Attack fall to Rangers 5-0
The Owen Sound Attack were back In action on Wednesday hosting the visiting Kitchener Rangers. The Attack were looking to get back into the win column after a heartbreaking loss to London on Saturday at the Bayshore. This was the 4th meeting of the season between the Rangers and Attack, Owen Sound had a win and a loss In Kitchener and beat the Rangers at home 5-3 on October 28th. A 3-goal second period by Kitchener led to the Rangers getting a 5-0 win over the Attack. Carter George made 21 saves in net and Corbin Votary made 9 stops.
Owen Sound looked to establish their game plan early and get momentum in their favor. The Rangers got the first power play of the game but great forechecking by the Attack kept Kitchener from taking the lead with the man advantage. Both teams had a few chances in the offensive zone but the game remained scoreless. Owen Sound’s penalty kill went back into action and continued to box out the Rangers attackers to limit the scoring opportunities. The Attack pressured Rangers netminder Jackson Parsons to make several high-quality stops during extended pressure in the Kitchener zone. Matheas Stark put the visitors ahead 1-0 over the Attack with just over 3 minutes to go in the opening frame. Owen Sound would get their first power play of the game late in the period. A great chance by Colby Barlow just missed going In the top corner of the net. Kitchener held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The Rangers would add to their lead just over a minute into the middle frame with Filip Mešár getting the marker. Looking for a spark the Attack used their speed and physicality to try and generate scoring chances. Showing his speed, Colby Barlow drew a penalty against Kitchener and put Owen Sound on the man advantage. Parsons was ready to stop some great opportunities for the Attack to get on the board. Owen Sound continued to pressure the Rangers defense and used their speed to force turnovers. The Attack looked to kill off their 3rd penalty of the game, but Mešár added his second of the game making it 3-0 lead for Kitchener. After some applied pressure in the Attack zone, Simon Motew would add to the Attack deficit making it 4-0 in favor of the Rangers. The period ended with the Attack finding themselves in a 4-0 hole to visiting Kitchener.
Owen Sound came out to start the final period and looked to get back into the contest. Carson Rehkopf would give Kitchener a 5-0 lead which saw Votary enter the crease. On a Rangers power play, Parsons had to make a big pad save to stop a Cedrick Guindon short-handed chance. Votary made some sharp stops to prevent Kitchener from extending their lead. Parsons made a glove save on an Owen Sound three-man rush up the ice. The final buzzer sounded with Kitchener skating away with a 5-0 win at the Bayshore.
Up next Owen Sound will travel to London to face the Knights for a 7:00 PM Friday night tilt. On Saturday, the Mississauga Steelheads will pay a visit to the Bayshore to battle the Attack for a 7:00 PM contest.
