Attack Fall To Firebirds 6-3
The Attack were back in action on Wednesday as the Flint Firebirds made their way to the Bayshore. Owen Sound was looking to continue their winning ways after beating the Kitchener Rangers at home and the Generals on the road in Oshawa last weekend. Cedrick Guindon with 2, Deni Goure scored for the Attack. Jackson Stewart, Goure, and Servac Petrovsky with 2, James Petrovski added assists. Carter George made 20 saves in net and Corbin Votary made 2 saves.
Both teams set the tone early in the game making big hits to establish their physical play. The Attack applied the early pressure in the Firebirds zone and had a shot ring off the post. Flint would get the first man advantage of the game just over 3 minutes into the game. Seconds into the power play, Simon Slavicek put the visitors ahead 1-0 off a scramble in the crease. Owen Sound would get their own power play and looked to even the score. The Attack had several close opportunities intight and forced goaltender Nathan Day to make some key stops. Flint would extend their lead to 2 when Nolan Dann tipped in a shot from the point. George made a number of stops during a Firebirds push in the Attack zone keeping it a 2-0 Flint lead. Owen Sound continued to use their speed and physicality to their advantage looking to gain momentum. Late in the first period, Guindon ripped home his 7th of the season cutting the Attack deficient to 2-1. The opening frame ended with Flint ahead 2-1 over Owen Sound.
The Attack applied the pressure to the Flint defenders to start the second period looking to tie the game. Owen Sound had some great looks on the Power Play and had several chances that were turned aside by Day. Flint would restore their 2 goal advantage during a short-handed play by Zacharie Giroux brining the score to 3-1 Firebirds. Owen Sound answered back quickly with Goure putting his 7th of the season past the Flint netminder. Guindon fired home a shot from the slot off a nice feed from Petrovsky to tie the with at 3 with 5 minutes remaining in the period. George made a big glove save late in the frame of a Firebirds rush to keep the game tied at 3. Owen Sound and Flint were tied at 3 after 40 minutes.
Both teams came out in the final period and treated fans to some fast-paced action looking to break a 3-3 tie. Gavin Hayes put Flint ahead 4-3 just over 3 minutes into the frame. Just over 2 minutes later, Nathan Aspinall gave the visitors a 5-3 lead. Slavicek added his second of the game on the power play putting Owen Sound in a 3 goal deficit. The Attack desperately tried to get back into the game and forced Day to be sharp. Owen Sound applied pressure in the offensive zone on a power play, but could not find the back of the net. The final buzzer sounded with Flint picking up a 6-3 victory against the Attack
Up next, Owen Sound will battle the Sting in Sarnia on Friday, November 3rd at 7:05 PM.
