Attack fall 5-4 to Knights in Hard-Fought Battle
The Attack were back in action on Friday as they visited Budweiser Gardens to face The Knights in London. Owen Sound was looking to get back into the win column after falling 5-0 to the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday, November 8 at the Bayshore. This was the second meeting of the season between the Attack and Knights, with London winning last Saturday in Owen Sound thanks to a last second goal. Servac Petrovsky with 2, Tomislav Brennan, and Ethan Burroughs scored. Cedrick Guindon with 2, Burroughs and Sam Sedley with 2 assisted. Carter George made 25 saves in the crease.
Kasper Halttunen put London ahead 1-0 with an early power play marker. A pushback by the Attack pinned London in their own zone. A puck over glass penalty for the Knights led to Owen Sound getting a few chances to tie the game on the power play and tested netminder, Owen Willmore. George had to hold his ground in the crease and made a huge pad stop to prevent London from adding to their lead on the power play. Attack defenders did a great job preventing the Knights from getting high quality chances on a man advantage and keep the game at 1-0 Knights. Burroughs and Guindon had great opportunities to find the back of the net, but Willmore was up to the task. Madden Steen fired a shot from the slot that the goaltender just got a piece of to steer away. Halttunen would have the only goal of the period as the Knights lead 1-0 after the first.
Petrovsky raced in on a 2 on 1 rush and fired a shot over the glove for his 4th of the season to tie the game. Great defensive plays by Attack defenders prevented London from retaking the lead on a short-handed marker. The Attack looked to take the lead on their fourth power play of the game with 30 seconds to go in the middle frame. Owen Sound and London entered the final frame tied at 1.
Deni Goure saw Willmore make an athletic save in the net to prevent the Attack from scoring on the power play. Some fast-paced action saw both teams getting their opportunities to take the lead, both goaltenders were up to the task keeping the game tied. With lots of traffic in front of the net, a point shot by Jackson Edward found the back of the net giving London a 2-1 lead. Off a turnover, Brennan beat Willmore for his first of the season to tie the game at 2. Strong play in the defensive zone helped Owen Sound kill off a London power play and keep the game tied. A quick rush up the ice by Declan Waddick lead to an Attack power play that resulted in Petrovsky getting his second of the game off a rebound to put Owen Sound ahead 3-2. Seconds later, the game was tied again at 3 with Easton Cowan getting the marker. With just over 5 minutes to go in the game, Burroughs deflected in a Sedley point shot on the power play to give the Attack the lead again at 4-3. London would once again tie the game with Sam O’Reilly brining the score to 4-4. Fans were treated to overtime in London on a Friday night.
Owen Sound started the overtime with lots of speed and controlled the puck in the London zone. George made a great save on Cowan who was standing alone in the slot. The Knights were able to get the game winning goal in overtime courtesy of Denver Barkley making it 5-4 London.
