Attack Fall 5-4 in Overtime
The Attack traveled down to the Dow Event centre in Saginaw for a 7:00pm game agains the Spirits. The Attack fought hard and played defensively throughout the periods but would eventually fall to Saginaw in overtime 5-4. Fans would see Cedrick Guindon make 2 goals, Sam McCue with one goal and Sam Sedley with a goal and an assist of his own. Sedley’s 2 points ties him with Former Attack Player Santino Centorame for the Franchise record for Most Career Points by a Defenceman. In net for the Attack was Carter George, making 47 saves of 52 shots.
Starting into the first period, Saginaw would control the puck, pulling play into the Attack’s territory. This would bring the first goal of the night to the Spirits, now leading with a 1-0. The remainder of the period would be spent guarding and playing offence for the Attack.
Energy would ramp up as the second period began. The Attack would pounce on the opportunity to bring play across the ice to Saginaw’s net, as Braedyn Rogers would put the puck in front of the Spirit’s net to Landen Hookey. Hookey would then shoot the puck, rebounding off of Guidon’s stick. The tied score of 1-1 would not last long as the Spirits would score shortly after pulling ahead. In response the Attack would force their way back to Saginaw’s net where Sedley would fake a shot throwing the Spirits off giving him the advantage to then shoot the puck straight into the back of the net. The score was now tied once again, now 2-2. Just over halfway through the second period the Attack would pull together, Servac Petrovsky making a smooth pass to Guindon, shooting from the center point earning the Attack another goal. Saginaw would score again tying the score for a third time, now at 3-3.
With a common trend of tying, both teams played diligently and strategically in attempts to pull ahead. After almost ten minutes, McCue would break the silence rebounding a shot off his foot, falling into the Spirit’s net. The chase was on as Saginaw would once again followed suit of scoring. The score was tied 4-4, bringing play into overtime.
Guindon, Sedley and Colby Barlow would begin on ice for the Attack in overtime. 4 minutes into overtime, the Attack would fall, bringing the final score to 5-4 Saginaw.
The Attack will be now moving on to Windsor to play against the Spitfires. The Bears will be back at the Bayshore, Tuesday February 13th for a home game against the Oshawa Generals.
