Attack Earn a Hard-Fought Two Points, 4-1 Win
The Owen Sound Attack battled for two points tonight and came out victorious. Landen Hookey was able to pot his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season, while Pierce Mbuyi added two assists to continue his hot streak. Braedyn Rogers and Easton Mikus had their 6th and 2nd goals of the season respectively. Jacob Therrien was the lone contributor for the Battalion with his 8th goal of the year.
The first period was quiet for offence. Both teams threw their bodies on the line, blocking shots and turning up the physicality to win puck battles. Both teams got a chance on the powerplay but could not get the puck in the net. Pierce Mbuyi saw a great opportunity from a slick cross-crease pass on the powerplay but just missed the net. Carter George also showcased his brilliance, sprawling across the crease and stoning Jacob Therrien to keep the score at zero.
The second period started ideally for the Bears, getting rewarded with a power play and not wasting any time taking action. A well-executed cycle from the Attack powerplay unit got the puck out to a wide-open Braedyn Rogers on the blue line. Taking advantage of the open lane Rogers fired a quick shot right by the netminder, making the score 1-0. Both teams stayed locked in defensively for the remainder of the period and the score remained 1-0 Attack.
The Attack got off to another great start in the third period, when Pierce Mbuyi burst into the Battalion’s zone, catching all defenders off guard. Flying to the back of the net for a wrap-around attempt that resulted in a gift on the front doorstep for Landen Hookey to put it away for his 22nd goal of the season and making it 2-0 score not even forty seconds into the third. The Bears luck ran out during their third consecutive penalty kill, when Jacob Therrien put away his 8th goal of the season, making the score 2-1. Just 12 seconds later Easton Mikus restored the Attacks two goal lead when he one-timed home a cross ice pass from Rafik Varosyan to make it 3-1 Attack. After lots of battles in the corners and quality scoring opportunities, time winded down, and it came time for the Battalion to pull their goalie. George did not hesitate on the opportunity to get the puck from behind the net, rimming the it around the boards for a wide-open Landen Hookey to put away the empty netter, his 2nd goal of the night, sealing the deal for the Attack 4-1/
