Attack 5-2 Win Over Central Division Top Team Barrie Colts
Between game day preparations and trade deadlines, the Attack had a very eventful Wednesday night. Facing off against the Barrie Colts at 7PM, the Attack took hold of a 5-2 win over the Central division #1 team. Fans would see Masen Wray with two goals and an assist as well as Landen Hookey, Harry Nansi and Declan Waddick all making a goal each. Back in net for the Attack from world juniors was Carter George making 25 saves of 27 shots from Barrie.
Winning the starting face off of the first period, the Colts began with a sharp tone controlling the puck early on. This would not last as the Attack would pull into the Colts’ zone. Bruce McDonald walking right through the Colts’ defence would hand the puck off to Wray, making a one timer shot into the back of Barrie’s net. The score was now open 1-0 Attack, and the first period would see no more action.
The Attack now leading on the score board would see much more to come into the second period with a strong offence and teamwork balance. Wray would once again get in close contact with the opposing team bringing the puck to the front of the net. Seizing the opportunity for an additional goal, Hookey would creep around the left side of the net shooting multiple times till the puck finally found it’s place in the net. The Attack were now up by two and the energy in the building grew with it. Back and forth with play the Colts would find a turn over of the puck but would ultimately loose opportunity as Nansi got his hands on a run away pass. Racing down the ice, Jake Crawford and Nansi would go head to head in a speed chance where Nansi would ultimately bring his 5th goal of the season. The Colts would answer with a goal of their own ending the period 3-1 Attack.
It was down to the third period, where both sides would receive many challenges with penalties and power plays. With 5 minutes to go in the third period, Declan Waddick, on a penalty shot would bring home another goal for the Attack with an effortless top shelf goal. Remaining in the lead, Wray would make his second appearance on the score board during a Barrie power play. Making a short-handed goal, Wray would take advantage of a goalie who had just recently left his net with little time to recover. The Attack were now up 5-1. With less than 5 minutes remaining, Barrie would see one more goal.
With a final score of 5-2 Attack it was safe to say the Attack win was in the bag.
Up next, the Attack will travel down to Sarnia for a Friday night Showdown against the Sting. Back at the Bayshore, the boys come home on Saturday Jan. 11 for a 7PM game against the London Knights.
