8 Goal First Leads Attack Over Windsor 12-3
.The Attack hit the road to start their 3 games in 3 days tonight in Windsor against the Spitfires. Owen Sound looked to bounce back from the last weekend and get back to their winning ways. An 8-goal third period by the Attack helped propel them to a 12-3 win in Windsor. Declan Waddick with 2, Jackson Stewart with a hattrick, Jake Crawford, Madden Steen, Comier, Martin Matejicek, Servac Petrovsky, and Deni Goure with 2 scored. Goure with 4, Sam Sedley with 4, Nansi with 3, Ethan Burroughs, Cedrick Guindon, Stewart with 2, Waddick with 2, Taos Jordan and Ben Comier assisted. Corbin Votary made 33 saves.
The Attack were rewarded with their strong play in the offensive zone to start the game with Waddick getting his first of the season 37 seconds into the contest. Votary had to make a big stop with his pad off a rebound to keep Owen Sound ahead 1-0. Stewart banged home a loose puck in the slot to put the Attack ahead 2-0. Seconds after the Attack extended their lead, Liam Greentree found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 Owen Sound lead. Well crashing the Spitfires crease, the Attack drew a penalty on Windsor and headed to the power play. Petrovsky wasted no time chipping a shot past goaltender Ian Michelone just 10 seconds into the man advantage. The offense continued in the contest with Noah Morneau making it a one-goal game again with the Attack ahead 3-2. 30 seconds later, Stewart banged home a Comier shot to make it a 4-2 lead for Owen Sound. Votary was called upon to make a sharp shoulder save to prevent Windsor from knotting the game on the power play. Crawford would get his second of the season and put Owen Sound ahead 5-2. A dump-in by Steen deflected off the stanchion and into the back of the net for his second making it a 6-2 Attack lead. Goure continued the Owen Sound offensive output to start the game banging home a loose puck in the crease making it 7-2 Owen Sound. The scoring in the opening frame was not finished yet with Adrian Manzo getting a marker for the Spitfires and making it a 7-3 game. With seconds to go in the frame, Stewart added another maker and made it an 8-3 lead for the Attack. The fast-paced first period ended with Owen Sound holding an 8-3 lead.
Votary made a number of stops as the Spitfires pressed in the Attack zone early to start the second frame. Owen Sound looked to keep their power play going and a quick shot by Petrovsky forced Joey Costanzo to be sharp. Votary was able to hold his ground in the crease and make a big stop with Windsor rushing in on a 2 on 1 rush. Owen Sound had some good puck movement on offense as they looked to extend their lead on a 4 on 3 power play. A nice cross-ice pass from Guindon onto the stick of Goure found the back of the net making it a 9-3 Attack lead. A burst of speed by Waddick broke in on a breakaway and beat Costanzo over the pad for the 10th Owen Sound goal of the contest. The Attack continued to press and controlled the pace of play in the Spitfires zone. Comier converted and tucked the puck into the side of the net for his 5th of the season made it 11-3. Period 2 ended with Owen Sound ahead 11-3.
Attack defenders did a great job boxing out Spitfires attackers during a Windsor man advantage in the third. James Petrovski made a great defensive play to break up a Spitfires odd-man rush and prevented a dangerous scoring opportunity. A rebound off a Goure point shot jumped onto the stick of Matejicek getting his first OHL goal added to the Attack lead. Strong defensive play by Owen Sound penalty killers kept Windsor off the board on a power play. The Attack continued to test Costanzo and had several high-quality scoring opportunities. The final buzzer sounded with Owen Sound getting back in the win column with a 12-3 victory to start their 3-game road trip.
Owen Sound continues their road trip tommoroow night in Sarnia at 7:05 PM and then head to Flint for a game Saturday at 7:00 PM.
