Ottawa earned a 9-3 home win on November 14 before closing out the series with a 5-0 shutout win on March 1 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.<\/p>\n<p>The Barber Poles will once again be led by head coach Dave Cameron behind the bench. The Charlottetown, PEI native\u00a0signed a two-year contract extension on May 19 and was named to the 2025-26 OHL First All-Star Team after winning OHL Coach of the Year honours for the second time in his career.<\/p>\n<p>Fans can become season-seat members and secure their seats for the 2026-27 season, with packages starting at just $20 per game. My question is whose expectations?\u201d said team general manager Jan Egert, who was finishing his first season since being promoted to the role. \u201cThe\u00a02025-26 team invested a lot of work into the success\u00a0they\u00a0had in our 100-point season, and it\u2019s not fair to them to say they exceeded expectations. They earned their reward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Egert noted that the same standard will carry into next season as the organization looks to build on its success.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019re excited about the players we have drafted over the past years that are developing\u00a0in Jr. A, Jr. B, U18, and prep school, and they will be provided the opportunity to make the 67\u2019s next year,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u00a0take pride in building from within, because when you get drafted and make a commitment to a team, it should mean something in both ways &#8211;\u00a0it\u2019s not just one signature on a piece of paper: it\u2019s a player, their parent, and the hockey club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">This week, a handful of players will have the opportunity to join the 67\u2019s family through the entry and U18 drafts, with the OHL Draft being held in person for the first time since 2000.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI think it\u2019ll be an exciting event &#8211; an opportunity for the league to showcase all 20 teams, its brand, and the standards the OHL operates at,\u201d he said. \u201cI am excited to represent the 67\u2019s in that format and draft the future of our hockey club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt will also be an outstanding opportunity for the young players who will be selected in Kingston,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">While the NCAA&#8217;s allowing CHL players into Division-I college hockey has allowed for a deeper player pool, Egert fundamentally doesn\u2019t believe it has changed much about the draft process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019re still watching the same players, in the same arenas, playing the same game,\u201d he said. \u201cThe\u00a0<strong>main\u00a0<\/strong>difference is that previously, when you\u2019d meet with those players or talk to their representatives, they might say the player had the ambition to play college hockey, and that could alter your draft strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFrom a scouting standpoint, we\u2019re still in the business of connecting with players we feel are the best fit for the Ottawa 67\u2019s and educating them about our program, our hockey club, and how we do things,\u201d he said. \u201cGood players, good people, are always going to have options; I like to believe that the 67\u2019s are a very good option for player development, success on ice, off-ice, and in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the NHL draft, there\u2019s a big focus on whether teams should draft for the best player available or for positional need. Egert doesn\u2019t think that same logic lines up in junior hockey, at least within the 67\u2019s organization.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of change that happens to teenagers at that time away from the rink, so I don\u2019t believe that you should put your organization in a position where you have to draft for that one position,\u201d he said. \u201cI believe it\u2019s more important to focus on who is the best fit for the Ottawa 67\u2019s, and I think that goes a lot deeper than just positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s just as important to identify players with the right mentality, passion, and loyalty to their craft, and a willingness to develop loyalty to our club,\u201d he says. \u201cWhen the on-ice and off-ice DNA come together, that gives us the best opportunity to mutually thrive and work hand-in-hand on that player\u2019s development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">As for Jan\u2019s first year at the helm, it was, by most accounts, a success, but Egert is already looking ahead to how to improve on it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cChallenge is a good thing,\u201d he said. \u201cI always challenge myself that what we did in 2025-26 isn\u2019t good enough for 2026-27.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI don\u2019t mean that we had 100 points; next year we\u2019ll aim for 101. The draft was created to support the growth of U18 AAA hockey and provide additional opportunities for players who develop later in their hockey careers. This year, no fewer than 40 players born in 2008 and 2009 will be chosen from across the province.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Selection Process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Under-18 Priority Selection consists of two rounds, with each OHL team required to make two selections. Teams that choose a goaltender in either of the first two rounds are eligible to make an additional selection in a third round.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The OHL Under-18 Priority Selection allows teams to select U18 players who were not previously chosen in the OHL Priority Selection and meet league eligibility requirements. In 41 games, the Sewickley, Pennsylvania native posted a 29-9-2-1 record, a 2.07 goals-against average, and a .923 save percentage.<\/p>\n<p>He set a new OHL record for most shutouts by a rookie goaltender in a single season and became just the second goaltender in franchise history to be named OHL Goaltender of the Year, following Craig Hillier (1995-96). Fetterolf also shares the 2025-26 Dave Pinkney Trophy with Jaeden Nelson, awarded to the goaltending tandem with the lowest goals-against average, and received the F.W. \u201cDinty\u201d Moore Trophy as the rookie goaltender with the lowest goals-against average.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameron<\/strong>, 67, guided the 67\u2019s to a 100-point regular season and a third-place finish league-wide, with the club finishing with 47 wins and a league-leading low of 160 goals against. 400\">\u201cYour ultimate goal is to win the whole thing,\u201d said coach Dave Cameron, who recently inked a two-year extension with the team. \u201cSo when you don\u2019t do that, in theory, you haven\u2019t reached what you set out to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But in many ways, the 2025-26 campaign was a success-filled season for the Ottawa 67\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Originally pegged as outsiders, the team made the playoffs, hit the 100-point benchmark, and coach Dave Cameron reached the illustrious 1000-game milestone as an OHL head coach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t like how the year before ended,\u201d said Cameron of the 2024-25 season, which saw Ottawa miss the playoffs. \u201cSo we knew that we were in for some changes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAny time you have 10 new players, you are not quite sure what level you are going to reach,\u201d said Cameron.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIf you had told me at the start that we were going to reach 100-points, I might not have agreed with you,\u201d he said. \u201cBut, I recognized early on that this team was special.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Special has been a word used to describe this team by numerous people up and down the lineup, the coaching staff, and the organization for months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Whether it\u2019s get-togethers for home-cooked meals and community events off the ice, to camaraderie, both in practice and during games, on the ice, this team bought in themselves but also each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhat separated this group is that this group wanted to be challenged,\u201d said Cameron. \u201cWhen you challenge a group, you get two outcomes: those who think it\u2019s too hard and those who say to bring it; this group said bring it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He was impressed at the buy-in of not only those who started their season in Ottawa, but also those who joined later in the season, including overagers Sam McCue and Nic Sima.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere\u2019s always an adjustment for players coming into a new organization, especially this one, because it is hard,\u201d said Cameron. \u201cWith our program, we come in early in the morning, do a lot of stuff off ice with regards to fitness and community, so to be successful, it\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cSam McCue came in and was a real character for us,\u201d said Cameron. \u201cHe fit in very well and was playing his best hockey for us in the playoffs.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cNic Sima came in as advertised: high energy, physical player who can play with your top players and add some timely scoring,\u201d he said. \u201cHe was a big part of our leadership group, with his enthusiasm every day being really important for us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile, Cooper Foster remained a trusted leader as the team\u2019s longest-serving veteran on the team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCooper Foster came into this organization as a kid from Sault Ste. Marie and left as a man,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s a quiet leader, but as his game evolved and he became one of our best players, he got more comfortable and accepted that challenge.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With such key players and people moving on from the club, the challenge then becomes, how can the Ottawa 67\u2019s harness that energy and buy-in to next year\u2019s group?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWell, there\u2019s no reason to believe that the guys coming back are going to continue to have it, and you have to recognize that anybody you bring in, if they don\u2019t have it, has to be able to show that they can have it,\u201d said Cameron. \u201cAnd if they don\u2019t, we\u2019re not taking you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThat\u2019s our standard now,\u201d said Cameron. \u201cIf you aren\u2019t here for the right reasons, we don\u2019t want you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cameron hopes that the returns will take that next step and guide the new group forward.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe eliminate every excuse for players,\u201d he said. \u201cThis organization offers everything that an NHL club would offer: mental health, leadership, medical, and you have that mindset, you realize that hard work and fun can be in the same He represented Team Canada (Red) and won silver at the 2024 World Under-17 Challenge in Sarnia, recording two assists in four games.
