Throwback Thursday: Brendan Bell
As four Ottawa 67’s are out west at Hockey Canada’s Development Camp in Calgary, we throwback to a former 67 playing for Canada’s World Junior team in 2003.
After being selected by the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs two years earlier, Brenden Bell was well on his way to a successful hockey career.
He was in the midst of another outstanding OHL season in 2002/03, where he posted 14 goals and 39 assists in 55 games with the 67’s. Bell was named the OHL’s and CHL’s best defenceman that year as well.
His elite offensive skill as a defenseman, led him to be picked for the 2003 Canadian World Junior team. During the tournament he only recorded two points in six games, but helped Canada win a silver medal at home.
Canada would lose the gold medal game to the offensive juggernaut Russian team that featured the likes of NHL superstar Alex Ovechkin.
