The Ottawa 67’s were born in 1967, Canada ‘s centennial year. Over nearly 42 years, the 67’s have won two Memorial Cups as Canadian Hockey League champions (1984 & 1999), along with three Ontario Hockey League championships (1977, 1984, 2001).
The 67’s play in the Ottawa Civic Centre a 9,682-seat facility that was home to the Ottawa Senators before the Corel Centre was built. The 67’s welcome hundreds of thousands of fans each season, and have set records for attendance in the Ontario Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League.
Management
Jeff Hunt is the Owner and Governor of the Ottawa 67’s. He acquired the team in 1998 and since then, he’s turned the club into the top franchise in the Canadian Hockey League. Jeff takes an active role in all of the team’s activities, from sales and marketing to scouting and hockey operations.
Jeff was born and raised in Newfoundland . His father was a member of the RCMP, which meant a lot of relocating. Jeff moved eight times in 19 years, living in Labrador City , Corner Brook , Stephenville, St. Georges, St. John ‘s, Flowers Cove and Stephenville Crossing.
He is the former owner of Canway, the largest carpet cleaning company in Canada . In 1996, the company was selected as one of Canada ‘s 50 Best Managed Private Companies.

Coaching & Training Staff
- General Manager, Brian Kilrea, is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was the all-time winningest coach in junior hockey during his coaching of the Ottawa 67’s
- Head Coach, Chris Byrne, was an assistant coach of the 67’s before moving into the Head Coach position.
- Assistant Coach, Mark Grady, who won Coach of the Year for the last two years while Head coach of the Cumberland Grads, joins the 67’s for the 2009-10 season which will see him behind the bench again, with Chris Byrne
- Goaltending coach Tom Dempsey has worked with NHL goaltenders including Marc-Andre Fleury, Robert Esche and Fred Brathwaite.
Education Programs
Playing for the Ottawa 67’s is an opportunity to get a good education. The team has two academic advisors, plus a partnership with Sylvan Learning Centre to provide ESL to the team’s European players as well as tutoring to any player who may need assistance with his school work.
High-school aged players attend a semestered high school in Ottawa . Players who have completed their secondary education are encouraged by the team to attend one of Ottawa ‘s universities or its college.
Ottawa offers players many choices in post-secondary education, including University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and Algonquin College. The team also offers a scholarship to 67’s players.
Players are also involved in our Champions for Education program, where they visit local elementary schools to deliver positive messages about teamwork, goal setting, and anti-bullying.
Alumni
Hundreds of hockey players have donned our jersey over the past four decades.
Some have gone on to exceptional careers in the National Hockey League, including Dennis Potvin (a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame), Bobby Smith , and Doug Wilson. Current players in the NHL include Shean Donovan ( Ottawa ), Brendan Bell ( Ottawa ) Nick Boynton ( Florida ), Brian Campbell ( Chicago ), Michael Peca ( Columbus ), Kevin Weekes ( New Jersey ), Kris Draper ( Detroit ) and Jamie McGinn ( San Jose )
Countless others have gone on to careers outside of the hockey world, as lawyers, teachers, firefighters, police officers, and business leaders.
Local Attractions
Ottawa-Gatineau is the fourth largest metropolitan area in Canada , with over one million residents. Ottawa is located about 200km west of Montreal , and 400km northeast of Toronto . As Canada ‘s Capital, Ottawa is home to people from across the country and around the world.
Ottawa is one of the greenest metropolitan cities in North America , offering an impressive number of parks, woodlands, wildlife habitats, rivers and streams. There are over 170 kilometres of bike paths in the city, many of them along our scenic rivers and canals.
In the winter, the Rideau Canal turns into the world’s longest skating rink. We’re also minutes away from great downhill ski resorts, just north of the city in Quebec.
Besides the Ottawa 67’s, other major sports teams in the city include the Ottawa Senators (NHL) and the Gatineau Olympiques (Quebec Junior Hockey).
Ottawa is also home to world-class cultural institutions such as the National Art Gallery , the Museum of Civilization, War Museum, and the National Arts Centre. Festivals such as Winterlude, the Tulip Festival, and Bluesfest make Ottawa an attractive place to live throughout the year.
