Alex was the Rangers eighth pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.

Alex dressed in seven regular season games with the Rangers in the 2018-18 season finishing with a pair of penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +3.

Alex's first OHL point was his first career goal, scored on November 4, 2016 vs. the Flint Firebirds. Alex signed his OHL Standard Player Agreement with the Rangers in March, 2016 and spent the 2015-16 season with the Elmira Sugar Kings of the GOJHL. In 50 GP with Elmira, he finished third in team scoring amongst defencemen, with seven goals and 19 points, including three power play goals and one game-winning goal along with 51 penalty minutes.
