Late-game explosion gives 67’s win in North Bay
It was a tight game until the last half of the third period, but the Ottawa 67’s poured it on late, for a 7-2 preseason road win over the North Bay Battalion, Wednesday night.
With the game knotted up at 2-2 in the final frame, the 67’s scored five times in the third period, completing a span of seven unanswered over the course of the game, to cap off the victory. Will Gerrior broke a 2-2 tie in the early goings of the third, and was followed by goals from Tuomas Uronen, Gavin Ewles, Kimi Körbler, and Brady Stonehouse, respectively.
Max Donoso was in net for his first start of the exhibition schedule, turning aside 23 of 25 Battalion shots.
It was North Bay that started the scoring just 36 seconds in, on a net front rush by Anthony Romani. Justin Ertel scored a similar goal one second shy of four minutes later, and the Barber Poles quickly found themselves in a 2-0 hole.
Luca Pinelli got the 67’s on the board with an end-to-end rush just before the midway point, and 53 seconds into the third, Frankie Marrelli was sent crashing into Troops net minder Charlie Robertson, and was credited with a good goal when the puck found its way in.
A breakaway marker by Gerrior gave Ottawa their first lead of the night 2:44 into the third, and a laser by Uronen put them up 4-2 shortly after. Ewles, Körbler, and Stonehouse all found the twine within the span of less than eight minutes, capping off the Ottawa victory.
The 67’s will play their only preseason game inside The Arena at TD Place, Saturday, with these same Battalion making a visit to the nation’s capital. Puck drop is slated for 3:00pm ET, in what will be the 67’s Hockey For All Game.
