Game Preview: 67’s vs. Erie
The Barber Poles are back at The Arena at TD Place tonight for a 7 p.m. face-off against the best team in the OHL, the Erie Otters. Great seats are still available here, by calling 613-232-6767 x1, or directly from the TD Place Box Office, located beside Gate 3.
Ottawa will be looking to break out of their longest losing streak of the season. Turning the tide won’t be easy though, as they’ll be without one of their key players, captain Travis Konecny, for an extended period of time.
Konecny attended last year’s Team Canada selection camp, but unfortunately was not chosen for the final roster. He’s extremely excited to get a second chance and will make it very difficult for Team Canada’s coaching staff to send him home two years in a row.
His absence will be felt, but it means more ice time for others. Look for Ottawa rookies Noel Hoefemayer and Austen Keating to get increased minutes as GM/head coach Jeff Brown continues to season these future OHL greats.
Another obstacle on the way to a 67’s victory are the overpowering Otters. Erie’s league-leading record is an astounding 25-3-1 (51 pts) and they’ve scored the second most goals (133) in the O as well.
They’ll also lose two of their top-end players in Canadians Dylan Strome and Travis Dermott. Both are locks to make Team Canada and will miss tonight’s matchup against the Barber Poles.
Still in Erie’s lineup though, are two elite forwards, Alex DeBrincat and Taylor Raddysh.
Raddysh quietly has 44 points this year and currently sits eighth in league scoring. While DeBrincat is having a historic season in the Ontario Hockey League. He leads all players with 32 goals and sits fourth, behind three Knights, in the OHL’s overall points race with 54.
With both teams missing instrumental pieces of their roster, tonight’s matchup could go either way and should be a high-tempo, hard-working matchup.
