Game Preview: 67’s host Colts in home opener
The Ottawa 67’s head back to TD Place after two tough road losses to take on the Barrie Colts in their 2015 home opener.
The boys will have their hands full, as the Colts look be one of the OHL’s top teams again this year. Their lineup features some of league’s premier players.
Selected 30th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils, Colt’s goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood is one of the elite netminders in the OHL. The 18 year-old has tallied 56 wins over the past two seasons in Barrie. He was chosen to be Team Orr’s starting goaltender at the 2015 CHL Top Prospects Game, but came down with a sudden illness and was replaced by 67’s starter, Liam Herbst.
Another Colts standout, defenseman Rasmus Andersson, recently signed an entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames. His overwhelming offensive skill should make him a future NHL superstar. A native of Malmo, Sweden, Andersson played his first season in North America last year and racked 64 points in 67 games, good for third among defenseman in OHL.
The 67’s boast their fair share of future NHL talent as well. Last year’s team leader in points, Dante Salituro will make his season debut tonight. He attended the Columbus Blue Jackets training camp and stuck with the NHL club until late Friday afternoon. With Dante back in the lineup, the 67’s are finally at full strength and should be ready to put on a show for the home crowd.
