Game Preview: 67’s at Sudbury
After back-to-back losses in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday and North Bay on Thursday, the 67’s look to finish their three-game northern road trip with a win against the Sudbury Wolves.
The Wolves currently sit last in the OHL’s Central Division with a record of 5-9-1. After starting the season 1-6, they’ve started to play .500 hockey over the last eight games.
Their inconsistent results could be caused by the eight rookies that make up more than a third of their roster. One freshman that is leading the way in Sudbury, though, is David Levin. The number one pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, Levin brings elite offensive skill to a team that struggled in the oppositions end last season, scoring a league-low 149 goals. So far, he’s exceeding expectations as a rookie, recording eight points (4G, 4A) through 13 games.
On the back end for the Wolves, defenceman Kyle Capobianco returns to Sudbury after the Arizona Coyotes drafted him in the third round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He tallied 10 goals and 30 assists last year, and looks poised to smash that career high this season.
The 67’s still don’t know if they’ll have their captain and OHL assist leader, Travis Konecny, in their lineup today. He suffered an upper-body injury during Thursday’s overtime loss in North Bay and is listed by the team as day-to-day.
Even with Konecny out, Ottawa has plenty of offence. Dante Salituro, Jeremiah Addison and Travis Barron will all have to step up their games in the captain’s absence.
