Game Preview: 67’s at Niagara
The 67’s embark on a six-game road trip starting in St. Catharines with a matchup against the IceDogs tonight.
This marks the first time Ottawa has faced Niagara since they met in the first round of the 2015 OHL playoffs. The IceDogs got the best of the 67’s in that series, downing them in six games. The two teams were very evenly matched, finishing the regular season only three points apart.
If the playoffs started today, they’d be meeting in the first round again this season. Niagara currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference with 19 points and Ottawa ranks third with 21 points. The IceDogs have one less win, though have played one less game.
The teams even boast similar offensive weapons. Niagara has the likes of Coyotes prospect Brendan Perlini, Islanders draftee Josh Ho-Sang, and St. Louis second-rounder Vince Dunn. While Ottawa has relied on captain Travis Konecny, and forwards Dante Salituro and Jeremiah Addison for the majority of their offence this year. Konecny and Ho-Sang are tied for fifth in OHL scoring with 26 points each.
Salituro and Konecny are returning from taking part in the 2015 CHL Canada Russia Series. The 67’s duo was held off the scoresheet, but played well and helped Team OHL earn the 3-0 win over Team Russia. They were joined by IceDogs defenceman Vince Dunn and will have to readjust quickly, as Dunn will be trying to do all he can against Ottawa’s top offensive weapons tonight in St. Catharines.
