ROUND 1 GAME 4 RECAP: Ottawa secures sweep over Frontenacs with tight win
Going into the 2026 playoffs, the expectation was that the Kingston Frontenacs might be the underdog, but they would not go down without a fight. Fight as they may have, the Ottawa 67’s have closed out the series with their 3-2 win over the Frontenacs in Kingston Friday night.
Much like the previous games, Dace Cameron started their fourth line of Teddy Spitznagel, Zach Houben, and Sam McCue against the Frontenacs—hoping to set the tone as they have all series. McCue couldn’t have responded stronger, winning the puck on a forecheck and scooping the puck around the net and Minchak for a lacrosse-style goal, his second this year, to give Ottawa the 1-0 lead. Nic Sima would add to the lead with a goal of his own to give Ottawa the go-ahead. The Frontenacs would answer back, with Ottawa-native Matthew Frost getting on the board. Ottawa was dominant offensively in the first frame, outshooting Kingston 12-6.
The Frontenacs would get their big push in the second. Robin Kuzma would catch the 67’s off-guard in the opening minutes of the period, tying the game. They’d then keep Ottawa on their heels due to some poor discipline on Ottawa’s end. Despite all the man advantages for Kingston, Ottawa’s defense corps and goaltender would stand tall despite facing 11 shots that period.
Both teams would suffocate each other defensively in the third, as the Frontenacs clung to the game and series for dear life. However, Filip Ekberg would play spoiler, netting the game winner and series’ ending goal.
