Rangers spoil 67’s celebrations
The Kitchener Rangers spoiled a celebratory day for the Ottawa 67’s, claiming a 5-1 inside The Arena at TD Place on Sunday afternoon.
It would seem as if no one notified either team that periods are 20 minutes long, because all three goals in the opening frame came in a span of 42 seconds. First, Jack LaBrash finished off a rebound chance at the front of the net, but Kitchener’s lead was short-lived.
Exactly 30 seconds later, Nic Whitehead beat the Rangers’ netminder after a nice pass from Luca Pinelli, knotting the score at one. Kitchener responded 22 ticks later, this time it was Luca Romano sneaking a shot just under the bar, claiming a 2-1 lead at the intermission.
Offence was hard to come by in the second, with neither side being able to buy a goal for about 17 minutes. Eventually, though, the Rangers’ powerful offence cracked through, extending their lead to 3-1 on a tick-tack-toe play, ending with Cameron Reid firing a shot into a yawning cage.
The Rangers struck quickly again in the third, with Adrian Misaljevic potting his 25th of the season, putting the visitors comfortably ahead by three with 19 minutes to go. Jack Pridham capitalized on some confusion not long after, growing the Rangers’ lead to four, where it would finish.
