Pinelli, 67’s tame Wolves in Sudbury
The Ottawa 67’s are finally off the schneid, tasting victory for the first time since October 6th, beating the Sudbury Wolves 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Recently, goals have been tough to come by for the Barber Poles, but the floodgates flung wide open in Sudbury. It all started with Luca Pinelli walking around the top of the circle and sniping his first goal, immediately following a Cooper Foster faceoff win just 30 seconds into the contest.
The 67’s kept it rolling less than three minutes later, with Pinelli again getting the better of the Wolves’ netminder, putting Ottawa out in front 2-0. Just after the 10-minute mark, the Barber Poles struck once again, this time with Nic Whitehead potting his first goal of the season.
Alex Pharand got one back for the Wolves a couple of minutes later, and the scoring flammed out for the remainder of the period.
With the fresh sheet of ice, the 67’s offence got hot again. Josh Brady found the back of the net for the first time in 2024-25 under two minutes into the second, and Will Gerrior extended the lead to 5-1 with a great effort in front of the net about 12 minutes later.
In the third, Pinelli made good on a power play opportunity, scoring his 10th goal of the season, and third of the game. Lucas Di Giantommaso scored twice in the final five minutes, but it was far too little, far too late, and the Barber Poles evened up the season series with a 6-3 victory.
