67’s sit alone at the top of the league with 10 prospects named to OHL Gold Cup

The Ottawa 67’s lead the way with 10 prospects competing in The OHL Gold Cup starting Thursday, May 3rd in Kitchener, ON.

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. The 160 players named to rosters for the OHL Gold Cup will have greater development opportunities and more training directly from Hockey Canada.

Out of the 160 players chosen to compete in this tournament, 130 players were selected in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The eight teams in the tournament represent the selected player’s respective minor hockey associations.

The eight competing teams include ALLIANCE, GTHL Blue, GTHL Red, HEO, HNO, NOHA, OMHA Black and OMHA White.

The ten (10) Ottawa 67’s named to an OHL Cold Cup roster are:

Cameron Tolnai (OMHA White) – 6th overall, Round
Will Cranley (OMHA Black) – 35th overall, Round 2
Alec Belanger (OMHA Black) – 44th overall, Round 3
Yanic Crete (HEO) – 51st overall, Round 3
Colby Ambrosio (HNO) – 66th overall, Round 4
Matthew Maggio (ALLIANCE) – 86th overall, Round 5
Anthony Costantini (GTHL Red) – 106th overall, Round 6
Dylan Peterson (HEO) – 126th overall, Round 7
Owen Luik (OMHA Black) – 166th overall, Round 9
Liam Cavan (HEO) – 206th overall, Round 11

The Peterborough Petes and Sudbury Wolves trail close behind with nine (9) each, while the Saginaw Spirit and Sarnia Sting only have four (4) players rostered in the OHL Gold Cup.

As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence, select players from the OHL Gold Cup will be invited to attend the National Under-17 Selection Camp, where they will have a chance to compete with other top talent from across Canada, to earn a spot at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

From the 2017 event, 22 OHL Gold Cup alumni were selected to play for Hockey Canada at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
