Horner, Gerrior score twice in 67’s win over Colts
It was an afternoon of rarities for the Ottawa 67’s, Tuesday, inside The Arena at TD Place.
In a seldom-seen 2:00pm weekday start, on account of Ottawa’s Staycation game for March Break, they also saw an unlikely hero in their 6-4 win over the Barrie Colts. Bradley Horner, roughly three months after switching from defence to forward, scored the first goal, and the game-winner in his team’s key victory.
Will Gerrior scored a pair of his own, while Luca Pinelli tallied his 44th of the season, and Sam Mayer found the back of the net in his 200th game.
Horner got the scoring started, 4:44 in, on a rebound chance off Cooper Foster.
Things quickly unravelled for Ottawa from there, with Thomas Stewart scoring twice, and Cole Beaudoin once in the span of 2:21, for a quick 3-1 lead.
Not wanting to let another game slip away, the 67’s logged their response. Pinelli converted on a laser of a shot, and Gerrior scored his first of two on a wraparound, quickly sending the game to the second period with a 3-3 score.
With Collin MacKenzie relieving Ian Michelone to start the second, Horner found another rebound on the Barrie doorstep, making it 4-3 Ottawa.
In the final minute of the frame, Gerrior chipped home a rebound of his own, and 52 seconds into the third, Mayer piled on with a point shot for the fifth unanswered goal.
Beau Jelsma got one back for Barrie with 1:59 to play, but it was too little too late, as MacKenzie and the 67’s slammed the door shot.
These two teams will face off again, in Barrie on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
