Gerrior lights the lamp twice as 67’s top the IceDogs
By: Hunter Miller
Will Gerrior stunned the IceDogs with an impressive two goal night to lead the Ottawa 67’s to a 7-1 home win over the Niagara IceDogs, Friday.
Henry Mews opened the scoring bringing their struggling powerplay to life 11 minutes into the game, thanks to a cross ice feed from Brady Stonehouse.
With seven minutes remaining in the first period, the IceDogs took their second penalty of the game. The 67’s took advantage, with Braeden Kressler one-timing his 26th of the season on a setup from Cooper Forster.
Halfway through the second period, 67’s captain Luca Pinelli impressed the crowd with a solo effort to keep the puck in the offensive zone before putting himself in great position to get the pass from Kressler and score bardown.
Just as Ottawa was about to run away with things, Niagara showed some fightback, not wanting to let another game slip away. Mathieu Paris takes advantage of a struggling penalty kill putting one in and bringing Ottawa’s lead back to two.
The 67’s reacted immediately with Will Gerrior scoring his first of the night with an awesome pass from Brad Gardiner.
The three-goal lead can be known as the worst in hockey, but not for the 67’s.
Five minutes into the third period, Gerrior stunned the crowd with a beautiful shot over the shoulder of Niagara net minder Owen Flores.
To continue the scoring spree in the nation’s capital, Brady Stonehouse potted his 19th of the year, continuing to be a scoring threat for the 67’s ahead of the playoffs.
Luckily, this game was at TD Place or else most of the seats may have been empty and would have missed rookie Kimi Korbler’s sensational breakaway goal with under a minute to go, to send the fans home with a smile.
The 67’s will be back on Sunday, March 10 at 2:00 PM to face off against the Mississauga Steelheads.
