Firebirds blaze past 67’s
It wasn’t the Ottawa 67’s night, as they fell 8-1 to the Flint Firebirds on the road on Friday night.
A competitive start to the contest was overshadowed by a roughly two-minute stint, in which the Firebirds burst out to a 2-0 lead. First, it was Josh Colosimo jumping on his own rebound to score his first career OHL goal, before Karlis Flugins put his name on the scoresheet.
Matthew Mayich let the crowd in Flint know of his presence, however, absolutely rifling a wicked shot off the crossbar and in, snipping the lead down to just one.
In the second frame, the Firebirds extended their advantage on a five-on-three man advantage, as Connor Clattenburg walked to the front of the net off the faceoff. Matthew Wang put the Birds up by three not long after, beating Collin MacKenzie from a sharp angle.
The Firebirds continued to pour it on in the third, getting goals from Hayden Reid, Flugins, Evan Konyen, and Wang once again to push it to 8-1 by the midway mark of the period.
