Battalion down 67’s
The Ottawa 67’s trip north was fruitless, falling 5-2 to the North Bay Battalion, falling four points back of the Troops for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
For 16 minutes in the first, it seemed like it was going to be a low-event period, but then seemingly out of nowhere, the Troops started the flow of goals. On the power play, Jacob Therrien scored his sixth point of the season against the 67’s, putting North Bay in the lead.
It only took 51 seconds for the 67’s to respond, and it was Luca Pinelli beating the goaltender’s far side, after a skilled keep-in at the blue line by Filip Ekberg. Not 30 seconds later, they struck again, this time it was Jack Dever picking the top corner from in tight, putting the visitors up by one at the intermission.
In the second, there was only one goal to speak of, and it went to the Battalion. Bronson Ride took a shot from the top of the circle through some traffic, and tickled twine, tying the game, and setting up a big third period for both clubs.
Lirim Amidovski opened the scoring in the third period, and Inhat Pazii added an insurance marker not long after. With the 67’s net empty, Nick Wellenreiter sent a puck the length of the ice and into the yawning cage, sealing the deal on a 5-2 Battalion win.
