Barber Poles beat Storm in shootout
It was a big win for the Ottawa 67’s on Sunday afternoon, as they held onto the final Eastern Conference playoff spot with a 4-3 victory over the Guelph Storm in the shootout.
The Storm, who played today’s game using their alter-ego, the Roayl City Jockstraps, opened the scoring a little over seven minutes in. Jett Luchanko took a rebound and slid it into the Ottawa goal with a nifty move, but the lead was short-lived.
On the power play, Chris Barlas, in his 200th career OHL game, tipped a Kohyn Eshkawkogan point shot home, scoring his seventh of the year. Then, only minutes later, Brad Horner took a great feed from Shaan Kingwell, and wristed a shot past the netminder to give the Barber Poles a one-goal lead.
Early in the second, however, the Storm equalized. Quinn Beauchesne blasted a one-timer into the net, setting up a great third period of action.
Midway into the final regulation period, Kingwell slid a short pass to Luca Pinelli on the goal line. Without much space to make anything happen, the 67’s captain fired an insane shot off the crossbar and in, to put the Barber Poles back in the lead.
On a long five-minute power play, the Storm took a little while to find their foothold, but three minutes in, and with three minutes left to play, Luchanko scored his second of the game to level the score on a one-timer.
The 67’s nearly struck a couple of times in overtime, including with a man advantage, but neither side could end the game, and a shootout loomed.
Lev Katzin and Luchanko scored for the Storm, but the Barber Poles got three goals in four rounds from Will Gerrior, Caden Kelly and Kingwell to snag a 4-3 win on the road.
