67’s sweep Petes in home-and-home
The Ottawa 67’s have moved back into eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a 4-1 Friday night win over the Peterborough Petes on the road, claiming victory in the season series.
The Petes started strong in the first period, firing 18 shots toward Collin MacKenzie, but they only managed to beat him once, with Brady Stonehouse scoring a little over eight minutes in.
It seemed as if the home side would carry that lead into the locker room, but for the second time this season, the Barber Poles scored with less than a second on the clock in the first period at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Luca Pinelli won a faceoff over into the slot for Kohyn Eshkawkogan, who made no mistake, tying the game at one.
That was all the offence the game saw for some time, but late in the second, Ottawa took the lead thanks to a goal from Peterborough native Josh Brady, setting up a big third period.
In the third, things got a little bit chippy, but it didn’t stop the Barber Poles from creating offence. It took some time, but Jack Dever found himself on a partial break with about five minutes to go, and ripped a dart over the shoulder of the goaltender, putting his team out front by two.
With under a minute to go, Cooper Foster potted an empty net goal in his first game back from injury, sealing the deal on a 4-1 win and a home-and-home sweep.
MacKenzie stopped 35 shots in the win, allowing just one goal on 65 shots in the two-game series.
