67’s host successful fishing trip
The Ottawa 67’s are up to five straight games with a point, after beating the Brampton Steelheads 5-1 on Friday night.
In Brady Stonehouse’s return to the lineup, the Barber Poles wasted little time getting going. Battling behind the net with a pair of blue jerseys, Henry Mews spotted an open Luca Pinelli out front, and fed a nice little pass to him. The captain made no mistake, putting Ottawa out front midway through the period.
A couple of minutes later, Jack Van Volson beat Jaeden Nelson to tie the game, the scoreline the teams would take into the intermission.
A hard-fought and intense first period translated to an equally exciting second, with the 67’s using their footspeed to cause problems for Brampton. Halfway into the frame, they were rewarded for their hard work.
Zach Houben fought like a dog on a bone to keep possession of the puck down low, creating a chance for Ottawa. The puck trickled its way to Chase Yanni, who banged it home, before jumping into the glass in celebration.
The dogged mentality translated to the third, as well. On the power play, Pinelli fired home his second of the game, giving the Barber Poles a two-goal cushion with around 15 minutes to go.
On the long power play opportunity with Porter Martone being ejected, the 67’s added another, this time with Cooper Foster getting credit. It was also a milestone moment for the Sault Ste. Marie native, netting his 50th career goal.
Just as time expired on the major, Will Gerrior tipped a Frankie Marrelli shot into the goal, putting Ottawa up 5-1.
