67’s drop back-and-forth contest in Oshawa
Four lead changes highlighted the night, but the Oshawa Generals got the
better of the Ottawa 67’s in a back-and-forth contest on Wednesday night,
securing an 8-4 win.
It was a bit of a sleepy start for both sides, typical of a Wednesday night,
but it wasn’t devoid of good chances. Chase Yanni and Henry Mews had a couple
of good ones for Ottawa, and Collin MacKenzie made a few nice saves to keep it
deadlocked at zero.
With the clock down near a minute to play, the Barber Poles broke through on
the power play. Nic Whitehead dug the puck out of the corner for Kohyn
Eshkawkogan, who fed a pass across the blue line. It was right into the
wheelhouse of Matthew Mayich, who blew it past Isaac Gravelle in the Oshawa
goal.
Just 46 seconds later, the 67’s put some cushion between themselves and the
Generals, as Cooper Foster potted his 13th marker on the campaign.
The frantic pace to end the first clearly kickstarted the offence for both
sides in the second. The Generals scored three times in the first 10 minutes
of the middle frame, with goals coming from the veterans in Luca D’Amato,
Colby Barlow, and Calum Ritchie.
Down for the first time all night, the Barber Poles didn’t wither, dighting
their way back. Whitehead capitalized on a rebound that was kicked right back
out in front after a Filip Ekberg shot, levelling the score.
Three minutes later, Zach Houben jumped on another rebound, scoring his second
career OHL goal to put the 67’s back in front.
Once again, the lead was short-lived after the Zamboni vacated the ice. Barlow
scored his second of the night, which was closely followed by a go-ahead goal
from Luca Marrelli. From then on out, it was all Oshawa, using their strengths
on the offensive end of the rink to skate away with an 8-4 win.
