67’s draw first blood in rivalry series against Petes
The Ottawa 67’s battled hard on Friday night, taking down the Peterborough Petes 4-2.
The Barber Poles controlled the opening 10 minutes or so of the first period, but Masen Johnston stood tall in the Peterborough goal, turning aside 13 shots in the opening frame. Despite the 67’s dictating the pace, the Petes struck first, with Brennan Faulkner scoring his second of the season.
Five minutes later, the visitors added another, with Carson Cameron beating Jaeden Nelson, who was screened, extending the lead to two.
Early in the second, the Petes nearly made it three, but Nelson came flying across the goal to rob Caden Taylor. Perhaps it sparked momentum for the Barber Poles, because soon after, Brady Stonehouse tipped a Henry Mews shot into the net, cutting the Petes’ advantage in half.
Only three minutes later, Will Gerrior tied the game on a shot that couldn’t have been more perfect, hitting the far post and banking into the net.
Early in the final stanza, Matthew Mayich laid a pass across the ice to Josh Brady, who jumped off the bench on a line change. The Peterborough native blasted a one-time home, giving his team their first lead of the night.
Caden Kelly finished the game with an empty net goal, sending the fans home happy with a 4-2 win.
