67’s downed by Battalion at home
The Ottawa 67’s couldn’t muster a late equalizer on Family Day Monday, falling 3-2 to the North Bay Battalion inside The Arena at TD Place.
The Troops controlled much of the first period, outshooting the 67’s 15-4, though Ottawa did have a couple of good chances. It took some time, over 17 minutes to exact, but North Bay did open the scoring on the power play. Standing near the faceoff dot, Jacob Therrien was fed a pass by Andrew LeBlanc and made no mistake, beating a sliding Collin MacKenzie.
Though the second provided nothing in the way of offence, the third was far from a letdown for those hoping to see goals. Will Gerrior tied the game shortly after the drop of the puck, and gave the Barber Poles their first lead soon thereafter, thanks to a great pass by Cooper Foster.
That lead wouldn’t hold, however, with the Battalion drawing even on a weird goal from Zach Wigle, who flipped the puck toward the front of the net from behind the goal line.
Lirim Amidovski broke through the Barber Poles’ defences 30 seconds later, using a nifty move to rid himself of a backchecker, before sliding the puck through the netminders’ five-hole, restoring North Bay’s lead.
Despite a late surge by the Barber Poles, and a puck drifting just wide of the goal in the dying seconds, they couldn’t find an equalizer, falling 3-2.
