67’s come back to stun Rangers Saturday
The Ottawa 67’s earned a comeback win, Saturday afternoon, sending a spiralling Kitchener Rangers team home with a 3-2 loss.
In a game that the 67’s dominated time of possession, they found themselves down 2-1 in the late goings before Luca Pinelli, and Bradley Horner hit the back of the net to steal the win from the road side. Ian Michelone out duelled Jackson Parsons, with a 23-save performance.
Despite outshooting the Rangers 14-4 in the opening period, the 67’s found themselves trailing after 20 minutes. An errant offensive zone pass was intercepted by Kitchener forward Adrian Misaljevic, and he made no mistake in putting a breakaway chance past Michelone to open the scoring.
It took Ottawa until there was just 1:04 on the clock in the second, but they did finally get their answering marker. Brad Gardiner got the puck to Sam Mayer at the point, and Jack Dever was parked on the doorstep to bang the rebound past Parsons, making it 1-1 heading into the third.
Just past the midway point of the third, Henry Mews was called for an interference on a play that the 67’s, and the 5,061 in attendance thought Antonio Pugliese embellished, but Rehkopf scored just as the man advantage expired to make it 2-1 Rangers.
When it looked like the Rangers were about to close things out, Pinelli took a stretch feed from Frankie Marrelli, and dashed into the offensive zone with a gorgeous goal to even the score.
With less than a minute and a half to go, Foster threw the puck on net, and it banked off Horner and in for the decisive marker.
The 67’s look to make it three wins in a row on Wednesday, at home against the Kingston Frontenacs at 7:00pm.
